Yeah, and I've played much of the games not listed and they are pretty bad, redundant, and/or are really short. The Stanely Parable, for example, is really good, but it doesn't take long to find all the possibly scenarios. It's also on Steam, so Valve benefits more. There are significantly less PC exclusives that are worth playing (e.g. Torchlight, Starcraft, Guild Wars). When people are asked what are their top games, they tend to be console games or games that are also on consoles. And because it's really easy to port from PC to PS4, we're going to see even less PC exclusives like how Magicka is coming to the PS4.

The cost and barriers of entry to PC game development are always going to be lower than on console so the number of games being developed on PC will always be more than on console.  That's simply stating the obvious...  The thread topic should really have been "Will Microsoft ever lose a gen?".

Now you're veering off topic and moving goalposts, Legend11. Also, I'm highly doubtful for the bolded considering that every PC is different and devs have to consider that fact while all consoles are the same. Also, it's much easier to make 1000 small games vs 1000 "AAA" games. However, the downside of making as many games as you can is that the quality immensely suffers, as I have experienced first hand. Are there good PC exclusives? Yes. Are there as many good PC exclusives as good console exclusives? Hell, no!

Edit: The development environment for PC is also a lot more lax than console development. MS (for the X1) and Sony have stricter policies which is why the X1 and PS4 very rarely receive buggy, broken games as opposed to PC.

I consider PCs to be a dumping ground for low standard software. It's not like consoles, not to say there isnt good games on PC

They DEFINITELY won last gen. Especially considering 360 is still outselling both Nintendo and Sonys last gen consoles to this day (according to NPD). Plus 360 killed in software sales as well.

The 360 and the PS3 have been neck-in-neck since the year started. If these consoles continue to sell through Black Friday they are both demonic. Microsoft succeeded in halving Sony's marketshare, They havent really done much to increase the market size like Nintendo or Sony though, so that could hurt them this gen.

Agreed. MS's strategy from last-gen was like a match. You can only use it once and after that, you can't use it again. Now, we're seeing MS suffering from the consequences of adopting one-time-only tactics and now, they're fumbling for a good long-term solution.

....doubt it. MS has never came CLOSE to winning a gen. 360 was their best shot and its still about 20mil behind Wii and its not going to catch it.

Nintendo pretty much strolled through the 7th gen but it did sell the most consoles, a generation of console is not dictated by how high its resolution is or if it's HD or not, HD was just as new as motion control even if it was just a gimmick it was a gimmick that sold over 100 million Wii's, Microsoft will have to dig very deep to find a way of being a generation winner but i just can't see them doing that, i think the next big thing is going to be VR headsets, that's where you are truely emersed into the virtual world, racing games, first person shooters, flight sims just imagin what those will be like with VR, if Microsoft has any sense they too should be developing their own VR headset for the XB1.

Current PC build:

Asus Z97I-Plus, i5 4790K @ 4.6ghz, EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 1377/1853/124%, Corsair Vengence Pro 2400mhz 2x 8192mb, Corsair RM850, Corsair H80i, 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 SSD, 750GB Seagate Momentus XT SSHD, 320GB Weston Digital HDD, Corsair 230T, Corsair K50 Raptor, HP XQ500AA mouse, Windows 10 Pro 64bit. iiyama Pro Lite G2773HS 120Hz 1Ms G2G gaming monitor.

ok...we pretty much agree. Europe is Sony land. Japan doesnt seem to care much for consoles these days ESPECIALLY anything MS releated. US contrary to what some may say that is No one's land. It can go either way and right now its favoring Sony

PS3 caught up because Sony was willing to sacrifice billions and billions of dollars. Hence, they bought a sales lead over the 360.

The biggest reason MS won't win a gen is because they don't care enough. Nintendo is all about gaming. Sony's best thing going might be gaming. Game consoles don't bring in mega profits these days and the market seems to be shrinking.

Any post that starts with this is just going to list some sort of an excuse like always. The point is PS3 caught up, no one gives a shit about the how or the why in 2014. It just is.

So its not worth noting Sony took a massive financial blow to compete with MS? Perhaps that's just a reality you like to ignore.

MS could have have easily stayed ahead if they were willing to sacrifice billions in profit as well. Hence, second place depended on who was willing to buy it.

There si something very very wrong with the way your mind works. I honestly can't tell if you are serious or if ur really that far gone. MS didn't care? Sony "bought" second place? lol.... I guess I have really heard it all.

Anyways, MS losing today is cause somewheer during the life of the 360, they forgot that they XBOX was supposed to be a games console. Then made the XO with that new vision of the xbox brand they had in their heads. It backfired.

The thing some people don't understand is that all companies try to "buy" 1st place each generation. When I say "buy", it really means investing  money into a product and vision, and hope that the consumers buy into them. Why some people grossly overreact to this fact baffles me immensley.

However, not all companies are the same and some will resort to unethical practices. Rather than bolstering their own products, they would sabatoge their competitors' (e.g. parity clause). Even when they bolster their own products, they do so through draconian policies (e.g. Rare being relegated to Kinect software only). This is why MS tends to be blamed more often than Sony (note that I'm NOT saying that Sony is blameless) for trying to "buy" 2nd place. Heck, some of the tactics MS used last gen are still practiced now in some shape or form (e.g. ID@Xbox).

Sony lost billions doing massive price cuts to the PS3 year after year.

Had they not been willing to do that, the PS3 would have sold significantly less. Simple as that.

It odd that people ignore this. People only care about MS's financial failures.
