Forums - Gaming - Destiny beta on Xbox One will not be running at 1080p, will reach 1080p by launch

I don't trust it, I think it's an artificial goal to hit that will cause a variety of things to be scaled back to meet the 1080p target.

We will get some combination of at least two of the following :

Tearing
Frame drops
Decreased AA
Decreased AF
Lower Quality Shadows
Lower Quality Textures
Lower Quality Models
Lower Quality Particle Effects

It's a certainty. Destiny is not a cutting edge game in terms of technology, but it's not Tetris either. Running it at ~2 million pixels x 30fps is going to bring compromises.

Microsoft really dropped the ball with the Xbone.

Not a big deal then.

Not unexpected, other games where they tried to keep both at 1080p (Sniper Elite 3, for instance), the Xbox One exhibits screen tearing and horrible frame rates. You don't get something for nothing, and the expectation that the Xbox One should be able to match the PS4 is unrealistic, given the limitations of it's hardware.

You will see 1080p on the Xbox One version of Destiny...but at the expense of shadow detail and other effects. I have no doubt that Xbox One owners will still have an enjoyable game, it just wont look as good as on the PS4, that's all.

This.

I wish devs would man the F up and give consoles some 'advanced' options that interested users could enter and adjust settings. We have a tiny taste of that with switchable frame-locking on a handful of titles, but what's sorely needed is a resolution option. Particularly for owners of 720P TVs this would be roses.

Imagine Titanfall with a 720p mode that significantly reduced screen tearing and slowdown in the multi-titan battles. Imagine Sniper Elite 3 @ 720p without screen tearing. Etc/infinity. Even Destiny PS4, 720P @ 60FPS 8xAA, or 900P @ 60FPS 4xAA. That kind of thing.

I know they're scared of confusing people, so hide them from the average noob, but let the people with more knowledge have some freaking options.

Well, as a PS4 owner, I am pretty happy with the quality of the games I have been getting...but I would STILL like those options myself!  I would MUCH rather have a solid 60fps, which actually benefits GAMEPLAY, than have fancy particle effects, for instance!

The interesting thing is...there is actually a game on the market that lets you choose between 720p and 1080p on the PS4!  The new Final Fantasy MMO.  Let's hope that more developers follow their lead...both on the PS4 AND on the Xbox One.

I don't understand. The game is still going to be 1080p in the end, so hardware-wise the Xbox One is fine.

Didn't they say that their "aim" was to hit 1080p on X1? They still have time to get there though can't really fault them if they don't or have to lower textures or other assets to get there.

Thanks jlmurph!

We have no confirmation that the supporting settings will be the same.

I can take BF4 and run it on my PC at 1080P with medium settings and zero AA, and then change it to 900P with Ultra + MSAA, and the 900P settings will actually look quite a LOT better.

If the game releases and it's truly identical, then you can say that Destiny works perfectly with the XB1 hardware.

On the other hand, if it releases, and notable cutbacks are evident that were necessary to achieve 1080P, then no, that's not fine. That's nerfing the quality of the game to achieve resolution parity.
