What is with this Koweniki guy? Defensive much over MS and incredibly arrogant and rude? every thread he is in he is condenscending, on edge and defensive. Take some Prozac. Or divorce yourself from your MS marriage.

Obvious Alt nonwithstanding,

Kowenicki is as rare as Latias, typically only frequenting specific topics he rarely branches out. Say something ignorant about Sony or MS's finacials however, and he will suddenly appear to tell you you are wrong, then dissapear as silently as he came.

However, since he's been on this site so long he has accumulated a veritable mass of posts.

Since he's also been here for about 7 years, it is entirely possible that he changed his posting habits and unfortunately I'm not qualified to comment on anything before I started observing him. The Koweniki is a mysterious user, often referring to the entire forum community as "his children"

And so it begins...

People who are putting Sony's condition are really novice. Microsoft is cutting job because of too many people (too big bigness) and duplication are added after Nokia purchase. And last quarter they posted huge profit.

That's not good. I guess the poor Europe X1 sales is the reason for this.

nope, most likely the purchase of a certain phone vendor which would have brought with it a lot of european staff, including a lot of device marketing people. you can't have 2 large companies merge and not expect some overlap.

Yes I already read the article. I was referring to the possibility of the job cuts at the Xbox marketing team based  in the UK.

Yeah. It's all over the news today. By the way your link doesn't work.

This was known last week. Too much manpower out there. Anyone relating this to Xbox one sales is really, really reaching.

The Nokia employees recently added, 25,000, are obvious targets as there will be much duplication in support staff.

MS has over 125,000 employees, so this represents a 5% cut and a possible annual saving of 600m dollars.

Quoted for maximum truth. At any rate with a company that big, at least 5% of it's employee base will leave naturally.

They need to start trimming down though

Sucks for those who are going to lose their jobs... Oh well... :/

Well, it was really predictable with all that workers from Nokia's mobile division (I will call it simply "Nokia" to simplify, refering to the acquired division) now entering the company. Anyway, I think cutting XB EU marketing teams isn't related to this. Of course, Nokia added some extra marketing people, but with expertise on mobile phones advertising. Despite that, some level of job duplication will exist for sometime because I doubt Nokia will act as a integrated part of MS: it's a different company with different corporate culture and won't act as part of the team for quite some time.

I think they added some XB EU staff to the layoffs because that guys weren't doing a good job. Maybe they will use some external marketing company to do the job and that will add a lot of flexibility for them if they want to change it later.

Edit: I'm actually curious about how they plan to handle Nokia. Integrate it as a division or keep it as a more separated thing. At least from what I heard the name Nokia may remain on the phones with licensing deals with the, well, other Nokia.
