If they were designed with operating systems from your company of choice from between Google, Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Apple, and Steam BUT you could build your own, buy a different branded one, or buy the base-models they each offered.

Lets also say they had some comfortably diverse quirks. Like Nintendo's, being effectively the evolution of consoles, wouldn't even allow games on their eStores that couldn't get their simplest form to run smoooth on the minimum specs that their OSs would allow itself to be installed on and integrated smoothly with their handhelds, but had structured things so that any modding was effectively done on their terms. Meanwhile lets say Steam as the reborn agent of PCs just allowed what would happen to happen.

Would you be comfortable with this sort of set up for the future of gaming? If so around when? 2020? 2025? 2030? 2050? Ever?

Not really good idea per say. What happens when you have to replace your TV? Weather it's because of a upgrade or failure. It drives up the cost of one thing. With consoles, I have my systems that are 20+ years old. And just worry about fixing them as sperate devices. My TV can fail or be replaced without any other worries. This also locks consoles from being uprgaded. People keep TV's way longer then a game system. Unless you can take them out and change the internal system or something.

No, nevah! No matter how niche it gets one day, there will always be a market for a dedicated game console, and that's where my support will go.

8th gen predictions. (made early 2014)
PS4: 60-65m
WiiU: 30-35m
X1: 30-35m
3DS: 80-85m
PSV: 15-20m

No cause I can't bring my "Smart TV" to my friends house

I imagine that would likely be possible if you could build them yourself. Plus if you have Nintendo and Sony doing it I'd imagine they'd each go out of their way to make sure the least educated of fools could effectively upgrade without blasting an arm off.

Not to say anything against either fanbase, there is no shame in having respect for a company that know how to accommodate people and make special efforts to do so, I actually name them because I fully believe they have the sense to do just that during such a sharp transition.

Smart TVs suck. And so do smartphones. Simple technologies FTW!

"Just for comparison Uncharted 4 was 20x bigger than Splatoon 2. This shows the huge difference between Sony's first-party games and Nintendo's first-party games."

Smart TVs are dumb. They are so slow and difficult to use.

Why did I read that in the same oddly cult-esque voice I read "I like shorts. They're comfy and easy to wear." in?

But in a manner so annoyingly distracting from that odd little point as to be worthy of being begun with the 'word' "irregardless", I have to ask why you think a well executed one would share those flaws.

I move my consoles between tv and projector. How do I move a smart tv and connect it to a projector...
