Looks like PC development is gonna be my focus for a while.
I was under the impression that they were already dev kits.

It was a silly promise to make in the first place. So many security reasons as to why they should not do this. Especially now you dont have to connect online to play your games.

Wow. Someone is awfully on the offensive about the loss of something that was useless and pointless and not a big deal when it was announced ;) |
Saying a feature like this is "useless/pointless" is just wrong.

And like i said in my initial comment...probably not a big deal. |
@Bolded: The only people who care about MS 180s are fanboys on both sides of the fence. Sony Fanboys use it as a negative, MS fanboys use it as a positive. In the middle are the consumers who just care about how much a console cost and will it have the games I want to play. Even today, only fanboys remember about 180s MS, Sony and even Nintendo has made during the previous generation. These types of things only add up on the fanboy battlefield then anything else.
From what I have seen, if its a positive 180 your average consumer take it as such. Fanboys on the other side of the fence try to spin it as a negative. Negative 180s are only revelant if you are affected which in this case will be a very small group.
So I can imagine that either opening it up as a devotional kit makes it too easy to pirate, or run non-xb one apps or even be vulnerable to hacks. Or the amount of processing power they can make available is so much less than what's available on proper dev kits that it would be impossible to make nexgen looking games on it.

Its not stupid, just impractical for Casuals and Gamers, basically anyone who doesn't want to make a game. It might mean more indie games for the XB1, but with the Parity Clause still in effect, PCs and PS4 will still take the indies,
its hardly a negative or a selling point.
Specially, when people like to call the PS4 the indiestation, when this devkit thing would make the XB1 explode with the level of shovel and crapware that plagues steam right now.
