Yep. Even as I'm coming up with these thoughts, I'm very well aware of how excruciating they'd be to actually do. It's a shame because I think some of my ideas would make for some interesting strategy, but without some sort of automated system, they'd just be too much of a pain in the ass to do.

Your first point is quite right. Splitting up votes would take more work, although I should add that it wouldn't necessarily mean that everyone is splitting their votes. How to distribute your vote would be up to you and I'm sure that a lot of people would still opt for the two vote system just because it's simpler. But having said that, you'd still have to be prepared for whoever may do it, and it would make things more difficult. I know just from the little bit of adding I did for those couple of pages for you (and they were only using the two vote system) that I wouldn't want to be the one adding all those split votes.
Your second point, though, I believe is mistaken. So long as the overall values for upvotes and downvotes remain different, they can't balance each other out. The total points up and total points down are still the same; they're just distributed differently. Functionally, it doesn't matter where the points go, as long as the total number remains unchanged.
Using the +5 -7 system...

Each of these votes is the same as far as the game is concerned. Regardless of how I allocate them, at the end of my vote, I've added 5 points into the system and I've taken 7 points out. You may be right that this would take longer, but that's because if people are dividing their downvotes, it will take longer for games to be reduced to zero, not because of the points canceling each other out.
To be clear, I'm not saying you should do the vote-splitting thing; all I'm saying is that I don't believe the points canceling out is a concern. But again, you're absolutely correct about it making more work. If you want to do it that's fine, but I just wanted to clarify that point so that you don't feel like you're being pressured into it.
Personally, I'm good with whatever you choose to do. I meant it when I said that I thought the vote splitting would make it more interesting, but I also understand how much harder that would be to count, and since you're the one who ultimately has to do it, you should only do it if you really want to. Whatever you do, don't do it just because I said it would be cool. Then I'd feel bad.
