It gets flak because it is perceived as lazy.  Nintendo needed a Mario game, so they just took an existing engine and made an expansion pack for it in HD essentially.  When this happens people get annoyed because we like change and because too much of a similar thing in a short amount of time deadens your perception of it.  If they had released a full 3D Mario game, it would have gotten a better reception. This is also why Mario 3D World kind of got a "meh" from a lot of people - it's a great game, but it's just "more of the same" in many peoples' eyes with 3D Land.  The same thing can be pointed at DK Tropical Freeze - it's a very similar game to the previous one but in HD, etc etc.

If they had released 4 Galaxy games since the first one, you could assume the same thing would start happening there, too.

 

It's a shame people only look at games on the surface to make thier judgements of it. It's a crime that Tropical Freeze still has less than a million copies sold.

No.  It still costs way too much.  $200 is a fairish price though.

You should see UK prices. Everything is cheap as chips in the US.

I'm actually in the UK right now.  The destiny bundle is 385pounds!!!

That's $659.42 US dollars give or take. Americans don't know how lucky there are. Then the UK is lucky compared to Brazil's prices!

Yup. I remember when Contra was about as "mature" as it got. No one complained. No one also complained in the early 80's arcade scene either.

I just want to say that the Wii U can be a great bargain if you wait for the right deals. I recently bought the New Super Mario Bros. U/New Super Luigi U bundle for $275. Target had a buy 2 games get one free deal, so I got Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World, & Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze for $120. I also got Wind Waker HD for free with the Mario Kart 8 Club Nintendo deal. All told, I got the Wii U, New Super Mario Bros. U, Super Luigi U, Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3d World, Donkey Kong: Tropical Freeze, and Wind Waker HD for slightly over $400. That's a good deal IMO.
