Ok for the last time calling ps+ a rental service is beyond silly.
1. Rental services give you a collection you can chose from. Ps+ doesn't. Is that a good thing? With a few exceptions (discovering gems you'd never normally play), it's actually not. But that's besides the point. It's still massively different to almost any rental service (referring to games not cars).
2. It lets you keep your games as long as you have a subscription. To my knowledge, you can't go to blockbuster (are there any left?), rent a game and return it a year later. Or two or even 5 years later. And if they let you do that with a game or two, they definitely won't let you do the same with every game you rent.
3. When you renew your subscription, you get ALL your games back. You can't do that with gamefly. As in "hi I'd like to rent a game and get back all the previous games I rented the last couple of years".
4. It gives you some incredible discounts. And if you purchase a game this way, you get to keep it forever. Rental services don't give you that option and in the very rare occasions that they do, the deals are nowhere near as good.
5. You get exclusive or early access to betas and exclusive items, such as avatars, themes, apps and you can download entire games and play them for a few hours as if they were demos at no extra cost.
6. You get free dlc and other items that cost money. I get free orbs on destiny of spirits every month. Those things cost money and I don't have to return them back. Also, I recently got the Japanese voice pack for Lighting returns for free and I remember also getting the Fallout 3 dlc for free. Rental services don't offer that either.
7. You get other services such as the ability to play multiplayer online on ps4 (nothing to do with rental services) and cloud saving. This way you can easily transfer saves files from on console to another, especially if one of them dies (or is lost/stolen) and you can't retrieve the save files.
There are probably more, but these are the ones that come to mind. I'd advise people who have no idea how ps+ even works (especially the ones who have never owned a sony console) to refrain from displaying their ignorance on this topic. You're entitled to your opinion, but at least do some research before commenting on something you don't know enough about.
OT: If Ninty decides to do that, they have to try their best to make sure that it can compete with ps+. Old NES games won't cut it and they should offer good wiiu games from the getgo. A mediocre effort will only result to more criticism.

The voice of the people that are lazy. Thx for that.
OT: I don't think they can even do it. Do they even have enough third party games to pull it off? They would mostly just use Eshop games if they did I guess.

They could use classics from the VC to start. Personally I'd start it at $9.99 a month, offer 2 classic VC games and a slight discount to the entire store. Custom Mii Verse vanity items would be another bonus that might go over well. occassionally offer an indie title for the Wii U as the monthly offering. The Wii U also has some really good games that flopped financially that could be used as part of an instant collection without suffering too big a hit: Wonderful 101, Zombi U, and Rayman Legends are good examples of financial flops that were amazing games.
It doesn't really take too much to make a subscription service worthwhile, and with the VC you have the nostalgia machine in full swing. Offer earlier installments of games in a series. PS+ offered me Demon's Souls and it lead me to purchasing Dark Souls, DS DLC, Dark Souls II, and soon the DSII DLC. The VC has tons of old games the non-Japanese have never played, or some titles that were just too damn rare before. The could start the service with one hugely successful past title and one cult/import title per month and benefit a lot. An exclusive Smash U demo for subscribers would make it pretty damn successful if they started a service like this soon.
Why? Nintendo just wants to offer a different internet model than the competition. Copying would do no good for them.
oh god no.
PS+ is an ethical disaster. It plays with the fear of loss because the longer you are a member the more forced you feel to keep the subsciption going because you lose more and more stuff.
It copies the principal of MMORPGs with a fee and everyone agrees that those are shit by now.

No, PS Plus grew 300% shortly after the launch of PS4. Obviously that's due to charging for online play. The reality is charging for online play brought in more subscribers than "free games" on PS3, PSP, and VIta combined.
Regardless, the subscription for "free games" strategy is awesome. Surely that makes the Xbox and Playstation brands more appealing to some.

Agreed, so the Games with Gold model would be ideal.

An ethical disaster? No.
The amount of content offered by PS+ makes it worth it. Some games offered cost more than the subscription fee for the year. You get a crapton of games a year too. If you don't like an offering you could just cancel your subscription and when you want something resubscribe, so you don't lose anything of value if you cancel your subscription because you see nothing worth your while. It all comes back when you want it to. There's no fear of loss there.
