Forums - Microsoft - Microsoft: Gaming is a Mainstream Thing, Xbox home of Call of Duty

In a brief interview with GamerHubTV, Mike Nichols (Corporate Vice President) has talked about Call of Duty: Ghosts and Xbox, and he expressed some interesting opinions.

Microsoft opened their E3 show with Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare presentation and proudly announced that AW’s DLC content will be landing on Xbox platforms first, something that’s going on ever since 2010 and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2. Call of Duty and Xbox platforms were always going hand in hand, with most of Xbox users playing various iterations of Call of Duty. That’s something Microsoft is very aware of.

Xbox has always been the home of Call of Duty franchise and we think that the trailer for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is fantastic. That got a lot of good response from the crowd as well and consistent with prior years, DLC will be availible first for Xbox customers. We’re really excited to be able to do that again with the next-generation of Call of Duty coming out this holiday.

Another selling point for Call of Duty Advanced Warfare is Kevin Spacey voicing one of the ingame characters. Mike Nichols explaination of why such a big name would star in a video game is expected:

Well, I think it says that video gaming is incredibly mainstream thing. It’s amazingly popular, gaming is the fastest growing and the largest category of entertainment and when you have sort of bridging between Hollywood stars along with gameplay is an exciting thing. It’s really a celebration of gaming and entertainment and how those things can merge.

Even looking at the name of Microsoft’s next-generation console, Xbox One, reveals how true it is. Gaming has become as mainstream as any other industry, such as music or filmography, and Microsoft tried to make All in One package.

I just want to point out that Call of Duty: Ghosts sold more combined on PS3 + PS4 than Xbox 360 + Xbox One

Times change

I predict that the Wii U will sell a total of 18 million units in its lifetime.

The NX will be a 900p machine

Nope, it's pretty much 50/50 but X1+360 is slightly ahead.

Nope, it's pretty much 50/50 but X1+360 is slightly ahead.

Point being that despite timed DLC exclusivity, and 'exclusive' advertising the sales are almost at par due to console conversions so their statement that "it is at home on Xbox" isn't really true anymore.

To be fair, when I think of call of duty, I do think about Xbox with that name but I think that might change this generation however

MLG COD tournaments are using X1 only and COD will always sell at a higher attach rate on Xbox consoles.

It was on 360. Hell, I always played on 360 because most people i knew played it on 360. Not this time around for me PS4. And, so far the majority of people I will play CoD with are on PS4 too, same with Destiny. I think the tides will turn.

Given Vgchartz tendency to undertrack PS game I figured that they are at parity or close. No source beyond this. AGAIN just illustrating that the game is no longer sold mostly to xbox owners.
