Forums - Gaming Discussion - Why some men opt to play as women when given the option!

I read the first sentences and thought it was talking about using female avatars on forums. I mostly wonder why grown men use females, or children as avatars on forums. It is stranger than playing a female in character in a game.

Thankfully most people don't think like you, so we have a lot of nice pictures of females around here.

Of course, there's not really anything wrong with your desire for a sausagefest when it comes to avatars. After all, there are plenty of homosexual gamers around here and we get along with them just fine.

Says the thirty year old plus man using a female child as an avatar! I am more specically destirbed by the ones using children.

If a game has reason to play more than once, then I play both genders, generally choosing male on normal, and then female on hard.

A sexy female character model and I'm sold. Any game where I can create a female and I'm in (except Dark Souls II because the women look like guys with lady heads). Even the old WWE games that let you make a girl and wrestle guys--I always made a female character. I like looking at sexy women, too.

Some games that took advantage of my weakness:

Xena: Warrior Princess (PS1)
Danger Girl (PS1)
Rising Zan: Samurai Gunman (PS1)
X-Blades (Xbox 360)
Blades of Time (Xbox 360)
Rogue Ops (Gamecube)
Primal (PS2)
Golden Axe: Beast Rider (Xbox 360)
Bulletwitch (Xbox 360)

You get the idea. I'll even buy a shitty game if there's a decent female option.

Where is nariko?

Got that one, too!  One of my first PS3 games.  Hell, my first Xbox 360 games were Kameo and Tomb Raider Legend.  I bought Velvet Assassin and Vinetica based on their box art.  I'm telling you, I have a problem!!

I'm married, have sex often, watch good porn (nasty ones actually) but love too see pixelized butts while playing, do I also have a problem?? I sexualize all my female friends. And loved rumble royale, remember it? Should be released for ps4 with live textured DoA.

I got Rumble Roses on PS2 and then I got Rumble Roses XX for Xbox 360!  And nah, I don't think there's anything wrong with it.  I was just kidding.  Sex sells and there's an audience for it.  Plain and simple.  I like the female form and like you, I have a healthy sex life.  It's all good.

And keep us from kidnapping underagged girls to fill our needs. Pseudo Lolita porn is a social service.

I'm more disturbed by people who get disturbed when they see other people using cartoon characters of kids as avatars.
At 128 years old, I would think you would be over that :p

I chose a female avatar in my first file on Fire Emblem Awakening, mainly because they just seemed more interesting. After playing a file as male avatar, my female avatar had more personality: in her voice and she felt more like a real character that was part of the game.

When will we see the Transvestite option.
Both male and female character preferences are covered it's a win win situation.

I think this is nice sum up, though I think being one or the other doesn't always mean you pick the same sex, especially for completionists like myself.

Personally I think I am a Gamer B, I don't tend to think of the character as an extention of myself, and I tend to prefer a female protagonist... but when given a choice as in Mass Effect I often pick male first, and will try to make it look similar to me, but a second playthrough will have a similar amount of time and effort put into it and would be female, and subsequent playthroughs after that I am far more likely to be female (unless different character game mechanics mean I prefer playing as a specific male character)

I like a strong female lead, and strong female characters in general (AC:Brotherhood I deliberately only recruited female assassins... took a while as they seem more likely to be the opposite sex as your last recruit) but I still like to play as myself on occasion.

I'm of the B variant too, which helps with multiple playthroughs (sometimes concurrently switching between characters) making changes based on what I think the character would do. I wonder how gamers of the A variant do multiple play throughs? You're role playing after all, why play as yourself every time.

If you're strictly in the A category I can see how beyond 2 souls might be a tad difficult to get through in certain scenes.

i've always kind of thought the existance of gamers of the A variant was part of why first person shooters are soo popular.

i personally like character driven games.  i'd rather play a third person shooter than a first person shooter.  i like cinematic games a lot.  i've played though games where i didn't like the gameplay but i loved the story.  i find character editors to be a chore,.. i click female and then random until i like one enough.  basically, i feel like my B status affects my choices in the games i choose to play and enjoy.

..so i got to figure that A gamers do the same.  first person shooters as those have better "immersion".  probably online multiplayer because there is no story to get bored by.   games like skyrim and fallout too, the western RPGs instead of the jrpgs.  games with fantastic character editors.  there are people that love these things.  basically all the genres and features that i hate.

You probably are unaware, but me and rols online friendship mostly relates to insulting one another. If I am correct from what he said years ago he is about 32 and I am almost thirty. We fuck around because that is what we do in the NFL threads and beyond. All in good fun mostly. You disturb me too, but seriously having a female child or male child at that age for an avatar is pretty creepy!!!!

On the subject of Fire Emblem Awakening, I found that the scene where Lucina confronts the avatar carries much more emotional punch if they are mother/daughter than if they have any other relationship. And the Lucina/sibling conversations only make sense if the sibling is Morgan. It just seems a better story that way than it does with any of the options the male avatar has.
