Forums - Gaming - Anyone else feel games without achievements/trophies are a waste of time?

For multiplat games, I often prefer playing the Xbox versions for achievements.

But I still enjoy games on other platforms.

I enjoy them. I also think if done right they can help you become better at the game

It would have been awesome for Nintendo to implement an achievement/trophy like system for their games also. I don't feel games are a waste of time without them but they definitely add to the game. I have often replayed games just to get trophies and achievements.

Yep, it was a mistake to not implement an achievement/trophy system for the Wii U.

I'm going to guess you hated gens 1 through 6 😁

I completely disagree with you. I have been gaming since NES days. Trophies and achievements have only been around for one gen. The best games of all time came out way before trophies were even a thought.  I generally only focus on these in games I absolutely love.

Fuck no. I disable those damn alerts when ever given the option. I play games to have a good experience, not grow some intangible penis.

4 ≈ One

I play games for fun, for the experience that is implicit throughout the game's life. Achievements add nothing to the experience for me, I think achievements are a feature/tool that developers use to extend the value of a game.

Its a matter of perspective.

Gaming on:

PC:
Asus Z87-A  |  i7 4770K  |  MSI Radeon RX 480 Gaming X 8GB
G. Skill Ripjaws X Series 32 GB DDR3 2133 mhz  |  WD Blue 1TB SSD & WD Blue HDD 1TB

Consoles:
WiiU
Switch (Docked)
PS 3 / 4

Handhelds:
New 3ds XL
Switch (Portable Mode ;P )

trophies ruin my gaming experience because throughout the game I'm ALWAYS thinking about them. nintendo games, i just play.

I'm 10% away from reaching level 15 on PSN, after i hit that mark I'm done caring

Uh... I like in game unlockables and in some games I go after collectables. That's usually way better design on part of the developers anyways.

It kind of scares me that so many people have become trophy obsessed though and otherwise think they're wasting time. Honestly that's the thing that makes me want to avoid trophies on my systems is because I really don't want to become that person. I'm having fun as it is, just like I've been having fun for the last 10 years.

Not to mention that I sometimes spite it because it is such a lazy way to add replay value, whether or not it actually does. I know for sure that I would never like to use a system wide achievements record. That would be turned off within 5 seconds and hopefully I'd also be able to remove it from the profile I see.

Not sure if you're aware, but you can disable trophy notifications.
