Forums - Gaming - Anyone else feel games without achievements/trophies are a waste of time?

For me achievements add to a game and give me extra incentives to discover things in games I usually wouldn’t. At the same time they can be annoying particularly when there’s multiplayer oriented achievements that are near/unobtainable due to servers being closed, low player count or shoe horned in multiplayer modes I would rather not play.

If its a great game, then you dont really need another reason to play it again.

Lol no. The achievement is the joy I get playing a game, not some job I feel obligated to do to hear a stupid bing.
Anyone who games for achievements and trophies and not for the joy is gaming wrong. Not saying it can't be fun to get these achievements but it isn't always and to waste your time on that is just fucking stupid.

The time wasted in games with achievements is just the same as all other games.

Ummmm, it's not like you guys can't enjoy the story etc..... by playing the game the first time without caring about achievements and then just going back and playing again to get the achievements........ That's what I do most of the time anyway.

I've never cared much if a game does/doesn't have trophies, but I've found when they do i have an overwhelming urge to get all of them :p

On that note, fuck Catherine. Ain't nobody got time for that.

The phrase is I couldn't care less.

So you don't think people have fun getting all these trophies? Why would they do it then?

If you demand respect or gratitude for your volunteer work, you're doing volunteering wrong.

Usually I don't need achievments to feel a game is completed. I create my own conditions. For example in a Mario game a %100 playthrough would be getting all profile stars. In a JRPG would be beating every optional boss and getting most of the best equipment.

That would be true. But playing a game that is fun and has trophies > just fun.

I see.

But Nintendo games have something like that.

In 3D world you can get all stamps and stars, and it will take a lot of time to enjoy the game while doing it.

DKCTF, all the pieces, kong letters, time rush, etc. Mario kart, stamps, kart parts. Zelda minish cap, kingstones, MM, masks, pikmin, all hidden fruits...

You have lots of replay value if you want. And in this case, the achievments are specific for the games, and fit better in the game universe than a generic trophy.

I always hated that kind of "replay value" like collecting all the "x" in each level or finding all the artifacts/comic books etc. Just feels hollow and pointless to the overall game itself. Super gamey as well.
