I'm loving the hate, and it all stems from not having a d-pad.

Pokemon, Bravely Default, Fire Emblem, Starfox, Mario or Mario Kart can all be done on mobiles. I remember playing MK on the Wii without buttons.

I have no interest on playing on smart phones or tablets no matter how good the game may be.

It goes farther deeper than that.

I just find games less enjoyable on phones and tablets, it just feels gross to me it's hard to explain :)

Well, I play games often on mobile and there are very few experiences worth talking about. Even games I've enjoyed have been pretty terrible.

Buttons? Freemium? Paying less for Ace Attorney HD? Indie devs? 

I see complaints of all shapes and sizes. Yeah there is plenty of junk, but most of it is free. Also we have sites like Pocketgamer to help you pick the better titles.
