No. Dedicated Handhelds are becoming unviable as a platform fast. It will only get worse as the mobile boom continues.. Nintendo have gotten themselves too much damage with the with with the core consumer. Even if the next home console gets on par with the competition they still dig their own grave by now being considered a joke. Nintendos best shot for profits is becoming 3rd party

No, handhelds will die before consoles.

From what they've hinted at over the last year, their next home console will also be their next handheld. Hell, they just opened up a new building that unifies their hardware teams into one.

Depends on what route they plan to go with their next console and so fourth. Unless they plan radical change then yes, concentrate on handheld, because that market is slipping for them as well.

Absolutely not. Especially considering that the handheld market is going to see heavy declines as smartphones/tablets get stronger and stronger.

As far as consoles go, its not that nintendo can't make a good console, they just have to change how they approach the console space.

The market that made the Wii a success moved to phones/tablets

Handheld market is going towards phones/tablets

Nintendo must ditch systems and only make games for phones/tablets confirmed.

It sounds like you're kidding.... but whats funny is that you are right. Well, with exception to the bolded part.

The market that made the wiiU a success has moved over to phones/tablets. Phone/tablets are also filtering out the dedicated handheld space so a lot of people will just get a phone/tablet and be ok with the games they can play on them. thats not saying handhelds won't sell well... just dont expect it to be more than 60M in lifetime sales.

Sigh. Another person who hates nintendo's guts

Edit: changed what I called him!

Considering how Nintendo is starting their "Quality of Life" business, they seem to think the answer is diversity. Nintendo is a bit too small to support both their consoles and handhelds as much as I'd like, but they're too big to be handheld-only. And besides, having all their eggs invested in the handheld market is not a safe strategy. A single bad product could cause much more harm to Nintendo that way.

Nintendo's main problems generally root from their inability to release as much software as constantly as preferable. The only reason I can think of to support your idea would be if it increased their game output enough to compensate for all the disadvantages.

That said, I'm going to think about what a handheld-only Nintendo might be like. I might revisit this thread with some new ideas in a short while.

I wasn't (entirely) kidding. They should go third party for the few of their biggest/more advanced titles (technically) and release the rest of their stuff on mobile. It's the smart thing to do.
