Forums - Gaming - Have you played GTA IV after GTA V?

I never managed to finish GTA IV, just couldn't get into it despite loving GTA3 - GTA:SA, but I loved GTA V so I tried out GTA IV again to see if I could finish it, and yeah, couldn't do it. The story in GTA IV sucks, the vehicle handling sucks and the graphics are a massive step back. It is just clunkier and a reminder of what it was like to be an early PS3 gamer with the dodgy graphics and general unpolished feel.

But its like that for most games I think, particularly iterative ones. There is only a handful of old games that I can play and get the same satisfaction from as the day I bought them, price of progress I guess.

Never liked GTA4 while I do enjoy GTAV. When I play something like DW3 after playing DW7, it is still enjoyable. And especially with FF games you can go back and play older versions and enjoy them just as much as newer ones.

FFX HD has its own charm that is different then the original. Thus I enjoy them both for what they are.

Open world games have it worse. If I play Infamous after playing Infamous 2 it would be painful.

I finally completed GTAIV not long before GTAV was released.

To be blunt, the GTAIV campaign is just awful and lack of check points made it even less enjoyable. The city and game mechanics are great though. I recommend the expansions over the original game.

I'm playing GTA IV after playing Sleeping Dogs and it's incredible just how much worse GTA IV is. It was really VERY hard at first to get over the downgrade in pretty much every aspect. I haven't played GTA V yet, though, so can't talk about the difference between these two.

Wii U is a GCN 2 - I called it months before the release!

My Vita to-buy list: The Walking Dead, Persona 4 Golden, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, TearAway, Ys: Memories of Celceta, Muramasa: The Demon Blade, History: Legends of War, FIFA 13, Final Fantasy HD X, X-2, Worms Revolution Extreme, The Amazing Spiderman, Batman: Arkham Origins Blackgate - too many no-gaemz :/

My consoles: PS2 Slim, PS3 Slim 320 GB, PSV 32 GB, Wii, DSi.

To OP :

I have played GTA IV and it was the most boring GTA ever Created and by far the worst GTA in the series. Because the game was so crap ,, i waited for awhile for GTA V as teh reviews for GTA IV mentioned that GTA IV was the best game ever. Thankfully this time the reviews were right and GTA V is so much fun to play. Sadly my 360 finally died after 8 years of usage. i have the launch day one so i couldn't get to finish it . As a result i will be getting the current gen version of it. .

I was never blown away by GTAIV honestly. It was the first PS3 game I've played, and even then I felt something was off. "Clunky", I don't know. I really enjoyed the characters and story though, and the gunplay was fun, but 98 on metacritic...?

Anyway, I can't think of a game I loved only to discover it sucked years later...

I would go as far as to say the graphics lacked colors, were blurry, repetitive, the framerate was bad, and it was displayed at an upscaled resolution on PS3. No jokes, I did have headache playing it, the upscale made the graphics very strange and blurry. I really can't think about anything else than hype influence if someone thought this game looked good. And the missions and side missions were so repetitives. "Go somewhere, kill someone... Don't even drive because that's just not fun, it's just undetailed building everywhere. Grab a cab. Next."

GTA V really was the GTA I was waiting for. Native 720p, clean and colored graphics, diversity of environment and gameplay, a lot of possibilities, splendid road trips. Just driving for 1 hour in so much diversity in term of graphics, roads, environments and cars was so much fun.

GTA IV has odd graphics.. When it was night in that game I had to put the brightness of my tv up a notch and everything looked grainy.. GTA V is so much better.

Yeah, it's sad that when the GTA that we deserved this gen came, it's already being ported in a much superior version to next gen. On the other hand the GTA we had the whole gen was so mediocre, that I'd never ask Sony to port it to Vita instead of GTA San Andreas or GTA Vice City.
