Yes, especially with their next home console. The Wii U had an identity crisis with the original Wii.

I can see Nintendo sticking with the '-DS' namesake. I'm sure they'll call it something boring like HDS.

However, Nintendo will most likely try to distance themselves from the crap on a stick that was the Wii U, so I doubt they'll keep the Wii moniker. I have absolutely no clue what they'll call it. Omega Virtual Boy?

I think the 2DS makes this a sure thing. The branding has become so confused I can't imagine where they can go from here.

They need the market to start associating their products with the name Nintendo... not saying the console shouldn't have its own name, but that the Nintendo GameBoy and the Nintendo DS (for example) can both be recognized as part of the same line of products. The Nintendo part binds them together, and will do the same for the Nintendo 3DS and its successor and for the Nintendo Wii U and its successor.

HDS sounds too good to pass up.

This will sound stupid, but it's because of the dual screens. They can't really call it something else until they get rid of two screens without destroying backwards compatibility. Unless they can find a way to go back to one screen while still being able to play old DS-brand games, DS will stay.

I think for sure they will. Hopefully something like the Nintendo X or maybe even a reset and just call it the Nintendo Entertainment System.

I cant see how they will name their next handheld I think they could actually go back to the Gameboy line, but just a hunch.

HDS is amazing, actually. If they keep the DS theme, they should go (only) with that. I want them to start all over. I need something fresh, Nintendo! Drop all the conventions and slay me again next generation.
