Forums - Sony - Sony: PS Vita Audience is “Really Hungry for an Endless Stream” of Smaller Games

Endless stream of smaller games....and people wonder why it doesnt sell....

Sony's first strategy was 'console games on the go', however, which brought the criticism that Sony did not understand the handheld market, as people only wanted to play those games on a big screen television.  I remember that well.

There are a lot of things that I hold Sony accountable for regarding the Vita. Not making more big budget western games at this point, however, is not one of them.

The west had its chance and did not buy the machine. I wouldn't make more big budget western games, either. It makes little business sense.

Would you mind listing the games you mean when you say the bolded? I dont recall Sony ever releasing a big budget western game for Vita.  Vita got B team Uncharted, B team Killzone, C team resistance, C team CoD. Please tell me when these big budget western games for Vita came out. I have been looking for big budget western games for years.

B team?  What are you talking about?  Both Uncharted and Killzone were high level for a handheld.  Also, you do realize that "big budget" is relative and isn't going to be the same thing for a $40 game?

It's official. I'm never getting the Vita. Thanks for letting me save money, Sony.

Sounds like an attempt to justify their unwillingness to give Vita the big games it needs.

Vita's a tragedy in the same way as the Wii U; both have the potential to do better, but are constantly sabotaged by their respective companies.

@bolded

100% this. They are very well aware that indie games won't move hardware, but they also know that AAA games cost way much more than indie games. They're treating vita as a very small source of income. Minimum effort with minimum return as opposed to heavy push with mediocre results.

Sony's western studios don't put their A teams on Vita or handhelds.  That is what I'm talking about.  The exception being MM.  MM did a great job Sony just sabotaged their game sending it out with no advertising to die alongside PS4/X1 launch.

Just because a game is on handhelds I'll expect 2/3rds the effort from now on.  Gotcha :P

*bangs head against wall*

Last handheld I ever buy from Sony.

I'd be surprised if they made a successor.

"For a handheld"...yeah, well thats the problem. Sony wanted to put PS3 style games on a handheld, yet they didn't treat them like PS3 style games, resulting in the Vita getting what many people consider to be the worst Uncharted game (even though it was pretty good) and pretty crappy resistance and CoD (I don't really know too much about how Killzone stacks up to the others, but I know it wasn't made by the main KZ team). Either give your all to the "console style" games that you make, or make games "handheld style". Being portable obviously isn't enough of a selling point when you can play far superior versions of these Vita games on the PS3 (or PS4 now). Sony's strategy was poor and instead of trying something different when it didn't work, they just gave up. They deserve all criticism they receive for their handling of the Vita...

Sony you idiots, next time look at Nintendo. Big first and second party games, AAA 3rd party games and a lot of smaller games. You don't need one or the other, give your handheld audience everything!

As for indie games, I as a vita owner, I think they're great and best played on a handheld rather than a console or a pc. Guacamelee and mutant blobs are perfect examples of two of the best games on vita, which in my opinion are a better fit than games like Uncharted. I do realize, though, that indies are not a reason for most people to buy a console. It's just that Sony has stopped trying to sell hardware at this point.
