ummmm,no this cant happen

Hmm...

Activision-Blizzard:

Call of Duty, Doom, Quake, World of Warcraft, Tony Hawk, Spiderman, Guitar Hero, Diablo, Starcraft,

vs...

EA-Take Two

GTA, Bioshock, Madden, Carnival Games, MLB/NBA/NHL games, The Sims, Spore, Rockband, Need for Speed

You can always tell when Nintendo reaching a peak, lots of third parties have to consolidate and go bankrupt to adjust to the new industry direction.

It seems like just a little while ago that...

Acclaim, Activision, Bandai, Bioware, Blizzard, Enix, Pandemic, Namco, Sammy, Sega, Square, Take Two, Ubisoft were all essentially controlled by different people.  But in the last 5 years or so...

Sega and Sammy consolidated

Bandai is partially owned by Namco

Square and Enix merged

Activision and Vivendi Games (Blizzard) merged

Bio Ware and Pandemic have been bought out by EA (and Microsoft previously)

EA likely will buy Take Two

EA own something like 30% of Ubisoft

Acclaim went bankrupt

The biggest 3rd parties to seem unaffected (either buying or getting bought) are

Konami, Capcom, THQ, Koei, Majesco, and a few others, but even they participate to a degree.

This is from EA's website:

Right now, Take-Two’s future is uncertain. Take-Two’s creative teams make fantastic games and the company has gotten some good interim support from a group of new corporate leaders. But Take-Two is facing a host of threats and – with or without combination with EA – we believe there is a strong likelihood that the company will be sold in the not-too-distant future.

I guess EA thinks it likely they'll Take the Two Billion.

You could also look at it as a reaction to rising production costs combined with slow sales of the consoles they invested the most heavily in.

Any chance R* could escape ? (to Sony.............................. (I wish))

Anyway, in some cases EA do allow time for their devs to make games, and Criterion are not doing badly under EA, and hopefully R* will resist, or all their members will leave and form a new studio, which would actually be good cause it will end the GTA series, and allow them to make a new one.

Grand Theft Auto IV DLC on the PlayStation 3 also? Then I'm all for it.

But no more exclusives from Take-Two properties. EA likes the multi-platform.

There's probably a contract stating that DLC is Xbox 360 only. No matter whether Take 2 is bought or not, that contract has to stay valid (if it exists, which I'm guessing it does).

To tell the truth, I don't care so much about Take 2, but the general trend of so many mergers and buyouts is worrying.
