Forums - Gaming - Uncharted 4 first trailer and Uncharted 1 first trailer : Comparison

This is a much bigger gap than PS2>PS3. It is almost real life.

I still remember everyone thinking the next gen hardware was disappointing, well... :D

And all of those people were silly as f*ck.  If you compare the PS4 to Xbox 360 on a purily raw power basis, you will see an increase in horsepower of 10-16x.  That is not PS2 -> PS3, but it is easily at least as big an upgrade as Xbox -> Xbox 360.

Guys, if you think there is a difference you are deluded. Obviously the human eye can't tell the difference upwards of 6000 triangles. The "diminishing returns" image told us so!

To be honest, while the geometry is vastly superior too, I think what we are seeing MORE of is better texture work, lighting/filtering.   Kind of like what the Order guys were talking about (filters).

Even 1 year old / current PC games that are cranked to the max fail to reach the same level of realism that some of these most recent games do (at least most of them).  I think it's because of lighting/texture/filters more than Geometry...

It's definitly NOT just about geometry anymore, you can only make a ball so round via triangles before it's hard to notice.  What makes UC4 look rediculous is what I mentioned above.  Looking like ND on top of their game as usual.

Well, that's a reason why people who used that "diminishing returns" picture in the context of this gen are wrong.

No troll is too much for me to handle. I rehabilitate trolls, I train people. I am the Troll Whisperer.

Wow. I don't see Uncharted 4 improving graphics-wise as much as Uncharted 1 did since its reveal, but it's still amazing.

Uncharted looked good, but for me it was Uncharted 2 when the series became a top tier graphical showcase for the PS3. I would be as stunned if Naughty Dog could make such a leap on PS4 given how insane Uncharted 4 looks right now.

When the game was first revealed, yes it did look like this. It also improved significantly before release. What's funny is that many critics thought the first Uncharted trailer was BS. XD

Obviously this is hindsight speaking, but if they thought that was BS, then they must have been on something strong. Because that literally looks like a high end PS2 game, slightly improved. Like how launch games typically look (only just better than the best of the previous gen). If critics thought a glorified PS2 game was "BS" and not possible of a (at the time) next gen console, then I want what they were smoking

OMG that is quite the jump... But I don't remember Uncharted 1 looking THAT bad...

You decide which early-gen gap is the biggest.

Will gameplay actually look like this though? Naughty Dog started the whole thing where they show you footage from a PS4 system...but the game doesnt really look like that during actual gameplay.

Also, every gaming website calls the footage CGI :/ If this is gameplay then theres a MASSIVE misconception going around. General feeling around the trailer was that it was underwhelming.

I thought it was pretty awesome considering its not CGI.
