Forums - Gaming - Dragon Quest XI development underway, Wii U or PS4?

Just want to point out that this is technically a dupe, but it's had a lot of replies so I'm not gonna lock it:

http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=185039

And here's what I said in that thread:

"Pull a Ni no Kuni and make it 3DS/PS4. I've been saying that for a while.

It'll probably be Level-5 developing it anyway, so we know they can manage it."

I didn't think of that situation, but I'd certainly be pleased with it.

If one or the other I would say the PS4 for sure.

Still has the 3DS been ruled out as an option for the next entry in the series? Remember the Dragon Quest Series see's like 80% of its sales in Japan where handhelds are much stronger than home consoles.

Also happens to be that handheld sales are much stronger cause thats where the games are in japan.

In the HD era, i think the japanese had too much of a problem going into ful HD development. So, they settled for making handheld versions of their games instead. cheaper..... that in turn made the gamers go to the handhelds. Hopefully this gen can turn that around, especially with mobile takig over the handheld space.....

So why'd DQ7 skip the N64? It's on the most popular console. Wii U may be ahead now, but to say it's guaranteed the spot while also selling horribly is pretty odd. If they actually about highest selling platform, then it'll be on the 3DS. If they want to put it on a console, I don't see how you can argue for Wii U whenever the JRPG fanbase will have likely moved with FF15 already out.

The PS4 is also still selling terribly. We shouldn't be comparing the terrible sales of the two because it only make the situation look even more sad. The best bet for SE is clearly the 3DS, as of now. Some of the DQ fanbase is definitely already on there (DQVII, DQ: Terry's Wonderland, Slime Mori Mori, that other re-make.) and it's already going to be the largest userbase of any 8th generation console in Japan, which is where DQ sells.

However, I could easily see Nintendo not paying up for this exclusivity considering how completely stupid they are. As of now, it's completely up in the air. If you asked me where DQXI would go a couple weeks ago I would've definitely said 3DS, now I just am not sure.

WiiU or PS4 you say?

Hopefully it comes to Wii U, and hopefully it actually comes the fucking STATES, and hopefully it's an actual game, and not another MMO.

But honestly, if Square were wanting to make the most $$$$ possible, they'd make it a 3DS exclusive, as DQIX is the highest selling entry in the franchise, all time.

PS Vita! HAHAHAHHAHA

It is selling terribly in Japan, but doing well everywhere else. While the West isn't much a factor with DQ, the series has made strides in the last 2 iterations. If DQX hadn't been an MMO on the Wii, I'm sure it would have gotten localized and done well. That said, if Nintendo decides to amp up their offering to Square, it'll find its way to Wii U.

3DS still makes most sense for their track record.

Lets be honest here... If a developer has a choice between a wiiU and a ps4 and there is no backdoor money exchange going on, it would be for the ps4

It will be both. They've already dabbled with Nintendo with DQX for Wii U and the other one for 3ds but being SE they surely won't want to pass up on the potential sales of the PS4.

SE tends to keep Dragon Quest with Nintendo and Final Fantasy with Sony, but I'd be very please if they developed it for both (even though they won't  bring KH3 to the Wii U)
