Some of you guys never played the original Xenoblade... that game is the true definition of frightening faces.

Yeah, it's a little tough to play the original Xenoblade in the states... how about let's give X a second print run if it sells out okay Nintendo?
I'm looking to pick it up cheap as possible this summer however.

People are focusing waaaay too much on graphics and are ignoring the most important thing...story and gameplay.

The story sounds really promising, the setting itself is pretty awesome from what I understand. I however do not like the main character being silent, but it probably won't affect the story much (if at all). And the Nopons are back!!! best news ever!!!

For the gameplay, a lot of interesting things to talk about. First, thank god for the inclusion of knowing where you are facing an enemy (front, side or back), that was a small annoyance in Xenoblade because you sometimes thought you were behind the enemy but you hit the side instead, much needed improvement. The addition of what it looks like a "double cooldown" (for greater power and special effects) sounds interesting, this will add a whole new level of strategy. And what it looks like to be biggest thing is the inclusion of TP; it seems like TP will be used for arts (along side cooldowns) and some other stuff like reviving characters (basically replacing the party gauge from Xenoblade).

In the fact sheet for the game, as well as on Nintendo's official E3 site, it says you can customize the main character (as they showed) including the voice. In the gameplay snippet they showed in February, the "main" character was clearly speaking his attack names (Burning Sword, etc.). I wouldn't assume that it will be a silent protagonist just yet. :)

FEATURES:

  • Riding and controlling a weaponized mech, players can explore every inch of the massive open world displayed in gorgeous high-definition graphics. The world is filled with strange and imaginative creatures, from small bugs to giant dinosaurs.
  • As characters improve in different classes, they will learn new combat and defensive skills, or Arts. Players can customize the Arts palette as their characters learn new Arts. All Arts have a “recast" time – once cast, the player must wait out a “cooldown" period before that Art can be used again.
  • Players can customize everything about the main character's appearance, including gender, shapes, height, skin color, voice and tattoos.

Upcoming Games To Get

Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)

Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)

Just throwing it out there but X's premise reminds me a lot of the anime Suisei no Gargantia which was an amazing anime with a pretty huge twist towards the end.

Sure is a mixed bag of visuals.

+ (good)
Over-world detail/diversity.
Enemy models (nothing special, but surprisingly well made)
Render distance/scale.
Art direction (durp).
Lots of foliage (yay grass).

+- (okay)
Textures (some good some... bleh).
A lot of pop-ins (relatively forgivable given it's open world).
Inconsistent AA (hard to say how much in compressed video).
Inconsistent movement/battle animations for both enemies and players (likely since the game isn't finished though).

- (oh god why)
Character models (i feel like i'm in 2002 again).
Facial animations (an extension of the previous point).

Overall it's a good looking game (especially given the hardware), but needs some work before release.

Regardless of its visual inconsistency, it's going to be an amazing game. Will be interesting to see if it can live up to the standards of its predecessor.

I wonder if they can fix some of this stuff before release?

well they have another 6 months at least to polish up

since we can create our own character wonder if we can make our own mechs?

I havnt really compared the trailers with the gameplay stream but the graphics dont seem to be that huge of a downgrade. The earlier trailers showed 2D grass and to memory didnt show a face close up.
In saying that, the faces look crap BUT not as bad as the faces in Xenoblade.

I was hoping the graphics to be like FF13 (still one of the best looking games in my opinion), but obliviously will be bigger and better.

The thing is with the character models is that anyone that has played the first game should have expected it. People (including your good self) are exaggerating how bad they are though. The original game on the Wii had PS2 quality characters but X's character models are a considerable amount better.
