Forums - Sales - Metal Gear Solid 4 or Gears 2. Which will sell more?

Gears 2 if only because it is being released during the holidays.

We had two bags of grass, seventy-five pellets of mescaline, five sheets of high-powered blotter acid, a salt shaker half full of cocaine, a whole galaxy of multi-colored uppers, downers, screamers, laughers…Also a quart of tequila, a quart of rum, a case of beer, a pint of raw ether and two dozen amyls.  The only thing that really worried me was the ether.  There is nothing in the world more helpless and irresponsible and depraved than a man in the depths of an ether binge. –Raoul Duke

It is hard to shed anything but crocodile tears over White House speechwriter Patrick Buchanan's tragic analysis of the Nixon debacle. "It's like Sisyphus," he said. "We rolled the rock all the way up the mountain...and it rolled right back down on us...."  Neither Sisyphus nor the commander of the Light Brigade nor Pat Buchanan had the time or any real inclination to question what they were doing...a martyr, to the bitter end, to a "flawed" cause and a narrow, atavistic concept of conservative politics that has done more damage to itself and the country in less than six years than its liberal enemies could have done in two or three decades. -Hunter S. Thompson

MGS4 is going to be a better game. I'm sure of that. Problem is that Metal Gear has an enormous backstory. It's spanned consoles from the Nes, to the MSX, to all of Sony's gaming machines. It takes a lot of investment to follow Snake's adventure. Many of those who enjoyed the previous games haven't gotten a PS3 (yet).

Gears was a hyped mega hit that sold very well to a smaller user base. It's only been on one console, and I'm sure it will receive a price cut prior to Gears 2. GoW2 is going to take it.

That said, Nintendo's biggest selling game will be the biggest game of '08. Sony's best selling game will be 2008's second biggest seller. The 360's biggest game (Gears 2) is going to be third. -not counting handhelds.

not close at all,

Gear of war 2

- appeal to more people (less hardcore in a way that MGS for me)
- XMAS
- Xbox360 userbase

Time to Work !

MGS 4 hands down,
1) Franchise Pedigree, Gears is a infant.
2) Sales not pigeonholed in N.A. MSG4 has World Wide Reach and should be huge in Japan and push H/W sales in NA & E.U
3) Considering the killer app status, MSG4 will have a huge release window provided by Sony. Gears 2 will have a lot of competition with the n number of FPS games being released.

Heeeeyyyy!!!! <Snap>

you'll forgetting about multiplayer which should increase its sales i know it just starter pack but still.

I would say GOW2 bc of the instal base in NA is too high for the Japanese to overcome.

"Like you know"

Gears 2

Hi, this is Vince with Shamwow.

Ignoring the fact that Metal Gear Solid is a far larger and more popular franchise, it's also one of this generation's most - if not the most - hyped and anticipated game(s). The new gameplay features will also lure new people to the series.

Gears of War 2 will however be released during the holiday period, so sales are definitely going to be higher compared to any other time in the year.

I don't know. It'll be interesting to see which game sells the most. Both will sell enough though...

This will be close. Gears may have the advantage, as it will have a higher user base and release during the holiday period. However, it is not yet clear how many new fans MGS4 will attract to the series.

MGS4 is definitely more hyped than any other MGS game has ever been, but whether it will sell as well as the others is another question.

Mgs4. Will move copies and hardware in ALL regions. DMC4 moved 200k in Japan, that wasn't exclusive. Will be closethough. As much as I am looking forward to Gears 2, this is MGS people!!!!!If you dont have a PS3 by Q2 then ur likely to be missing something that will be one of the best games this gen.
