Forums - Gaming - How Sony and MS are stacking up for 2014

E3 gave us many great suprises in both camps. Console War be damned, I thought both has spectacular showings. Yet we still can't help but want to compare the two Gaming Hardware giants. Lets see how they are coming along so far....

So Far on what has released for each console....

PS4- Debuted with Killzone Shadow Fall , Knack, Resogun, and a slew of F2P games like Warframe in its launch weeks.

XBO- Debuted with Forza 5, Ryse, Dead Rising 3, and smaller titles like Killer Instinct and Panzer Dragoon.

Moving into 2014 brought many games, but the battle for differenciating these two from each other hasn't been the strongest. Most titles released so far have been Multiplatform. Shining Exclusives have been...

PS4- Infamous Second Son

XBO- Titanfall

Both are great games in their own right yet have their issues. Infamous as a series has great graphical fidelity but the game mechanics have not really matured the way it should have in the series. Titanfall is ripe for mass market attention, with booming sales, yet has not proven to be much of a XBO pusher.

Price wise, they are both currently at $399.

My Verdict:

I think they are both pretty even for the most part, with PS4 only winning in digital offerings by a land slide. Both seem to being doing their bare minimum retail exclusive wise for the rest of this year. Sony has a recent block buster remastered which is in direct opposition to MS's collection of their old but highly regareded franchise. Forza Horizon 2 is MS's middling new racing IP with promise, as so is DriveClub, And then you have LBP3 which is an award winning but low selling franchise vs highly optomistic new IP Sunset Overdrive.

This doesn't really seem to be changing much even when looking at what has been definitively announced for 2015 on. Uncharted 4 vs Halo 5, the rest is a free for all.

We already know they both boast highly comparable features but PS4 is more powerful over all, boasting better Multiplat games so far.

Stalemate?

What do you guys think?

Around the Network

I believe tomb raider on xbox one has some sort of exclusive content.

I'd say it's about a tie.

MS has more retail exclusives, but I'd much rather stuff like Outlast and Transistor than Kinect Sports Rivals, Fantasia or Dance Central

DooM better be f'in incredible wherever it is released.  Both are doing well.  The Kinect less price cut was a great decision regardless of they hate they are receiving.  Digi games have actually been pretty good too.  Resogun, Strider, Child of Light, Killer Incstinct, Transistor, Strike Suit Zero, Trials Evolution are all very good games.  IMO, Resogun is tied for best release of the entire new GEN so far.

It's really about even in terms of retail quality content, though Sony is killing it with the digital offerings.

Makes you wonder how close it would have been if Microsoft hadn't screwed themselves.

The battle of the two differing philosophies is interesting to me. Microsoft buys a few timed exclusives games and timed exclusive DLC, while Sony goes for exclusive extra content (which sometimes ends up as DLC on other consoles).

Around the Network

I think one of the main things that needs to stop being said about this generation is that "They haven't released enough games".

This makes my blood boil at work when I hear this. There is a very hefty amount of games, more so than in the same time span of previous generations. I would also argue that the caliber of the games is also MUCH higher now.

I'm pretty sure witcher 3 is 2015.

And Sony is saving their Japanese games for TGS which includes the last guardian.

I'm guessing your tables are XB1 stuff on the left; PS4 stuff on the right; stuff on both in the middle? In which case:

You've put Tropico 5 in the middle but it's only coming to PS4 out of the those two consoles, so far.

You've put 1001 Spikes on the XB1 side but it's only on PS4 so far.

You've put Dynasty Warriors 8 XL in the middle but it's only out on PS4 so far.

The new Ratchet is subtitled "Redux" not "Remade".

Otherwise, nice job. There's some PS4 indie/F2P stuff that's coming to XB1 but I'm not sure it's out yet.

if you going to count Titanfall as an XBO exclusive in the OP, then count FFXIV as a PS exclusive too.

you are right about Witcher, put it in wrong chart, I will fix it.

TGS is at the tail end of the year, its highly doubtful anything announced there is coming in 2014 unfortunately. Fingers crossed for Last Guardian there though. The system definitely needs more Japanese appealing games (which I am more into anyway).
