Their conference came and went, and I'm confused. I thought it was confirmed they had a big third-party, only on Xbox One?

Also, the big japanese game? It's Platinum's game? Wow.

what realistically, could a bigger japanese game have been?  realistically.

Considering Platinum games don't really sell well on any platform, Mistwalker would have been a way better choice considering the sales of Blue Dragon and LO. Also, Tri-Ace could have been a good partner as well considering their relationship was good last gen with MS as well. They are both realistic and probably better choices then this new Ip imo.

Surrised people aren't talking about Phantom Dust. That game was a cult favourite if im not mistaken.

Most ppl I saw in the PD thread never heard about it when it came out.

I saw a lot of people expecting Resident Evil or Dragon's Dogma.

He said realistically...

Platinum Games' title, Scalebound.

depends who is publishing it.. if MS, then its Second party. I m afraid we didnt see any rumored third party

-sigh- No, it's not.

Second party doesn't apply to games, it applies to developers. Platinum is a third party developer, developing either a 3rd party or 1st party game. It doesn't matter who is publishing it. It only matters who owns the IP and who owns the developer. Gamefreak is a second party studio that works for Nintendo on the Pokemon games. Rare was a second party studio working on both first party games, and 2rd party exclusives owned by the second party developement team. Those two are 2nd party because they were and are partly owned by Nintendo. Microsoft does not have partial ownership over Platinum Games, so nothing about it can ever be considered 2nd party. Microsoft now fully owns Rare, so it is now a 1st party developement studio.

Bayonetta 2 is a 3rd party game. Wonderful 101 is a 1st party game. Nintendo published both of them. Nintendo does not own Platinum Games or the Bayonetta IP. Nintendo owns the Wonderful 101. It's a 1st party game developed be a 3rd party developement studio. 2nd party is virtually non existant today. The only modern case I know of is Gamefreak. Gamefreak could make a game for the XBO right now if the wanted to.

People seriously need to quit bringing up second party like they know what it is. Sorry for singling you out. You are not the first or the last.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

It's a Third Party title, regardless. "Second Party" generally applies to the studio, not the game. In such a case, Platinum is Third and Scalebound is Third.

even if MS is funding the development?

As I understand it, unless MS picks up the IP, it will remain Third Party - much like Heavy Rain, the original Mass Effect, and Ninja Gaiden.

Edit: Though I don't prefer to use Wiki, they have the best explanation of the term: "Second Party" -

  1. Independently owned studios who take development contracts from the platform holders and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.
  2. Studios who are partially or wholly owned by the platform holder (also known as a subsidiary) and what they produce will usually be exclusive to that platform.

Despite Scalebound's current status, Platinum is neither of those descriptions.

Um isn't this exactly what Platinum is? An indenpendly owned studio producing a game exclusive to a platform being published by the platform holder?

Remember, Platinum game is only a developer like Insomniac, they do not publish their own game at all.

Edit: I don't even want to dispute on the definition but that wiki is contradiction your statement lol :D
