How ticked off would you be?

I wouldn't be mad at Mic... 33 31.43%

I would be a little angry... 12 11.43%

I would be severely ticke... 55 52.38%

I would be a little ticked off, but at the same time they can´t be expected to have everything up and running on their console come launch day. Hopefully this will become a reality in the future.

It's impossible for the Jaguar CPU to emulate a processor that is faster in a few respects than it is (per core, some functions).

So it would definitely require a new model, and for practical purposes a compatible CPU as well.

The odds of a full BC xb1/ps4 in hardware or emulation are zero though. It would be prohibitively expensive and a PCB nightmare to boot. Both 7g and 8g are extremely complex, high tdp units of massively differing uarch.

Streaming at best with a tray and play design. Even that is a ton of server resources and prone to issues unless your ISP is godlike.

At the end of the day if you want 7g games, play a 7g console.

They would probably use the same approach than most consoles, adding the 360 CPU (and maybe GPU) to the XOne motherboard. Of course, it looks expensive. Emulation has a big issue here simply because the X360 CPU is massively fast. The PS2 simply butchered the PS1 and the PS3 was much more powerfull than the PS2, talking about CPU. The PS4 and One are more paralell, but simply don't have much of a CPU boost.

But I actually don't know why people are so obsessed with backwards compatibilty. The older gen consoles are cheap to buy if you don't have one and don't have a good resale value if you are planning to sell and help to buy a new console. And when they stop bundling the older gen hardware in the new console and start using emulation, usually it is pretty bad (I tried GT2 on my slim PS2 and it simply butchered the visuals). Of course, I like to collect my console and won't sell any of them.

I wouldn't be ticked off at all. I bought the new consoles at launch as I am fortunate enough to be able to afford them and want to play the new games without waiting around. Releasing the cheaper new (better) model that you describe would allow (and entice) more people to pick one up, so it's a good thing, IMO.
