It's impossible for the Jaguar CPU to emulate a processor that is faster in a few respects than it is (per core, some functions).

So it would definitely require a new model, and for practical purposes a compatible CPU as well.

The odds of a full BC xb1/ps4 in hardware or emulation are zero though. It would be prohibitively expensive and a PCB nightmare to boot. Both 7g and 8g are extremely complex, high tdp units of massively differing uarch.

Streaming at best with a tray and play design. Even that is a ton of server resources and prone to issues unless your ISP is godlike.

At the end of the day if you want 7g games, play a 7g console.

Thank you, some people dont think things through

TBH, I can't see why they'd do this.

To Xbox One owners it'd feel like a betrayal, coming only 6 months after launch. And I don't see a BC, non-Kinect Xbox One selling enough to justify pissing off your fanbase like that.

I don't think the people who haven't upgraded from 360 to ONE aren't waiting for a white console, or to not have a Kinect, or for backwards compatibility; I think we've abandoned Microsoft after their anti-consumer policies, relentlessly shoving ads down our throats and trying to sell the insides of our living rooms to advertisors.

I had an 360 exclusively most of last gen, but after how they announced the ONE, even with the U-turns, I have no trust for the company.

They need to buckle down and impress the people who're currently buying the ONE, not desperately grabbing out at people who have no intention of ever buying the console. If this happens, it would be a disaster for Microsoft.

do you genuinely believe they would add software backwards compatibility to only the new consoles?, as far as people being upset, there will be those im sure that wished they had the option to buy without kinect, but in the end that is the gamble you take when buying newly launched hardware.

did vita/3ds/psp/ds buyers kick up a fuss when cheaper redesigned versions came out?

It's a possibility - most likely they would need only 360 CPU, I think GPU tasks could be easily handled by One's GPU.

There isn't going to be a Backward Compatible Xbox One. It would probably be an architectural nightmare and drive up the costs of the machine. The only console on the market with BC is selling terribly so there isn't much demand for the feature anyways.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

that also happens to be backwards compatible with 360 for $400

I've not heard of that before. Is this compatibility actually a rumour?

Microsoft has said they're looking at ways to bring backwards compatibility to Xbox One and it is definitely something that is being discussed in the Xbox fan community as being something that Microsoft will show off at this year's E3 in some fashion ( and that it will most likely come in physical form i. e. the ability to place your 360 game in your XO's disc drive to steal much of the thunder of Playstation now http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwtjQ_s1UsE&feature=share&t=1h14m52s  video link contains 18+ language ).

My understanding is that Microsoft were looking at software solutions for BC - not hardware ones.

Whilst a software solution may or may not happen, there is fuck all chance Microsoft are about to increase the unit cost of their console hardware for BC at this point, and it becomes more unlikely with every passing day.

It's just so much more convenient to be able to play 7th gen games on 8th gen consoles though. Thanks to Wii U being backwards compatible I could just chuck away my Wii

agreed but I wouldn't buy a new XBO just for it if I already have a 360 and XBO like I do now and wouldn't be mad about it...

I would have bought my Xbox One sooner and not bought a new 360 if it had been backwards compatible in the first place, so it would still annoy me

you RRoDed on XBO year of release ????

now that sucks I agree :D

got 3 XBOX 360 never got a RRoD one got stolen though but it was without my HDD

Considering I supported them at launch I'd be pretty upset. The fact they just introduced the Kinectless SKU in June though has me thinking that they wouldn't do this.

The report in the Australian magazine or catalog about the new xbox console combined with the talk coming out of the xbox fan community ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwtjQ_s1UsE&feature=share&t=1h29m15s 18+ language ) about how much of a blow it would be to Sony's plans for Playstation now if you could pop a 360 game into your Xbox One and be good to go, really makes me think that Microsoft is planning to solve their backwards compatibility issues with a new model Xbox One that plays 360 games. But, I don't think the 5 million people that have already bought xbox one would be too happy about that if that's the way it turned out rather than with an emulator. But Microsoft has an incredibly loyal fanbase that has stuck with them through a lot.

bloody australians, can't trust them- all them ozzies on welfare and stuff man (its basically a given that you get free money from the government - 150 a week, 200 if you live away from home, 1million if youre aboriginal) greed b@st@rd$ that cant be trusted.
