Let's see the legs on new console sales.
So far it seems the MK8 boost is a bit lower than Titanfall had on XB1, and we all know what happened to XB1 sales after that.

What game should be next | |||
| Zelda HD | 327 | 55.90% | |
| Banjo Threeie | 40 | 6.84% | |
| Retro new action adventure IP | 57 | 9.74% | |
| Metroid Prime 4 | 103 | 17.61% | |
| Others | 56 | 9.57% | |

Or, you know, there were just 187k MK fans in the world who haven't bought a Wii U yet and after that it will plummit again.
MK's system seller status does not prove that any other game on WiiU will do the same.

1. SM3DW =/= Real 3D Mario 2. DK:TF =/= Metroid :P |
No, not to him. To everyone who didn't buy the Wii U for those games which is, news flash, just about everyone. To the mainstream, the Wii U has nothing but Mario Kart 8 and maybe Wind Waker HD if they never played the original. That's it. SM3DW is just a 3D NSMB and DKC: TF is a game that should have been a 3DS game, and would have sold more on the 3DS.
If last holiday saw a real open world Mario and February saw a 3D Donkey Kong, the Wii U's sales situation would be much different right now. People don't buy consoles for handheld experiences, "only in HD this time."

Yes, it does. Mario Kart 8 is the first major game on the system that people have actually been asking for, and it sold accordingly. No one saw the Wii U in 2011 and thought "I can't wait to play DKC, SM3DL HD, Pikmin 3, and a remake of Wind Waker on it." They thought, "I can't wait for the new Mario Kart, Smash, Zelda, 3D Mario, Metroid, Star Fox, and Pokemon on it." Software sells hardware, but up until now Nintendo hadn't put up any hardware-selling software.

Hmmm... So The Wind Waker HD is a big game like Mario Kart 8? |

Most definitely. Both gliding and limited anti-gravity would not have been possible on the Wii due to HW-constraints. Next gen, we will get full anti-gravity, not limited one. Of course, the PS4 would already be able to do full anti-gravity, but then again the system is not designed to output high-quality cartooney visuals (different processor architecture, too advanced floating comma calculations and such), hence Mario Kart per se would not be possible. |
In term of architecture (cpu, gpu, memory, etc.) PS4 is totally different from PS3, and still any game that can be done on PS3 can be done for sure on PS4. That's a question of power and hardware feature, and as far as I know there is nothing like a "high quality cartooney visual" specific hardware on the Wii U, but there is a massive advantage of power and feature for the PS4. Simply told, it's 3D calculation, polygons, textures, effects, and what the Wii U can do can be done on the PS4.
And it's not telling a bad thing, because it shows that Nintendo is doing a great job, provide a hardware good enough for it, and have a specific style that is unseen in other studios and platforms.
