Forums - Gaming - Niche gaming genres

There's some really interesting genres out there that I want to give some spotlight in this topic. What is your favourite niche genre? For me, it's definitely the Rythm genre. While it may not be the most niche genre, it's still not very mainstream. Don't underestimate it though, because there's some great rythm games out there. For me Rythm Heaven is the most notable example. I played the DS Demo and instantly  started to play the whole game after that. It's still one of my DS favourites! I've played some other great games like Guitar Hero and Just Dance (hey, it works!) but also meh games like HarmoKnight. I've started playing Osu! lately and while I'm not good at it it's just really fun to be able to play songs I like in such a creative way. I also think that rythm games are so much fun to me because, if they're designed well, they're pretty much solely skill based. There's nobody to blame but you if you make a mistake!

The Adult Porn games genre although idk whether its a niche genre or that people are really good at hiding it! My favorite, favorite game would probably be Homemate in that genre just cause of how the girls act and their characterization is quite neat! Like for example, there are 3 girls in the game and if u only have sex with one if them, the other two will have yuri sex in the bath which you can peak into if you time it right

That one.

Especially now that you can just download them. ;)

Much of the games I enjoy from Japan are or have become niche in the global market.

The JRPG to me is the perfect blend of story and characters with strategy and game play. Sadly the scope of these games have made rising development costs against a declining or stagnating market for them more rare than they use to be in PS1/PS2 era.

P&C Adventures (along with their predecessors, Graphic Adventure Games)...actually, that was always my favorite (niche or non-niche) genre ever since 80's.

Dungeon crawlers are a very niche genre if it can be considered a genre of it's own. Personally I love them!

Rail Shooters.

Turn-based games. Both Turn based RPGs and Strategy games have become increasingly niche recently

turn based strategy and general strategy as well

Niche games certainly can account for some of the weirdest games.

The whole SHUMP genre is pretty damn niche! I guess it could be pretty hard for the typical CoD/BF gamer to get into the genre !
