Forums - Nintendo - Issues gaining altitude with the glider in MK8

Try using a different glider. I used to use the paranoid until I felt like I wasn't getting enough height so then I started using the cloud. Thee standard glider is great for speed and the paranoid is balanced while the cloud actually helps u get higher.

This

Can't believe it took to the second page for vehicle configuration to be brought up as part of the solution.

You do also need to be going fast enough at the time you hit the ramp as well though.

In Bone Dry Dunes and Mount Wario I have found that the easiest consistent way to always gain enough height is to start gliding by the edge that is on the highest altitude (which is to the right on these particular levels) and to never move the stick up or down.

Only case where I move the stick down is if I'm very close to reach the coins at the end of Water Park, in which case I do it on the last second. Because as you said doing it early causes you to lose speed and, eventually, height.

Yeah, that's what I do.

Weight, Significantly increases gliding speed, so a high weight character with a shoot that provides a lot a slower descent, like the Clouds (irc) will get you farther faster, also depending on the map, some areas can only be reached with a certain ramp
For instance, New Rainbow Road, the high road on one part can only be reached by the ramp on the left cause you move too fast to switch lanes midair.

Choose a light character like Toad.

I do use a light character (toad) and I typically use the Waddle wing glider. In MK 7, if you go off a ramp and pull back you go flying in the air. Here you plummet to the ground (loss of speed presumably)

I will need to play around with some of the gliders to see if there is one that gives me closer to what I expect.

Try high weight with a shoot type rather than a glider type. Also some areas require a certain part to be reached, like on the sand level there is a sand shoot with a coin on it that will boost you back up, I think you have to hit that to get to the higher track.

Thre is definitely greater variation in gliders from MK7 to MK8...
