I put a few hours into the first one and I was generally impressed by the game's polish. The story is useless, but the game doesn't waste too much time on it. The action is broken up with the occasional environmental puzzle, almost like Zelda.
This is the game credited with launching the quick time event into the big time as a game mechanic, so be prepared to endure that.
I should probably play some of the later ones and see how they refined the formula.

God of War 3 is by far my favorite. Boss battles are very gratifying.
The first 3 were good but the 4th one was not that good. I enjoyed them all except for the last one.
If you like hack n slash games like Devil May Cry, Bayonetta and the like then you'll love it. The value is off the charts compared to other hack n slashes.

But if you're open to try something different, with a strong focus on presentation, epic cinematics and story. Then who knows? you may love it! |
So you're saying mixing heavy ad light combo's with launchers and spells moderately challenging quicktimes and mini-games is a lack of gameplay?
I don´t think you will. In other hand, it is greek mithology and that is interesting for some people...
It would be hard not to enjoy gow. It's one of those games that if you like games you'll like gow. the gameplay is fun and very satisfying.
I played through the first two for the first time earlier this year. Maybe I'll find that topic I created, was something about how long and hard the God of War's were.
Also you reminded me that I have to finish 3! Thanks.
i think you will enjoy it, it's not like Zelda, but sometimes there ARE some REALLY tricky puzzles. I've played mostly Nintendo games for the past few years and I enjoyed it. Good story too.
Yep.

First of all Nintendo doesnt make hack n slash games. Totally different crowd. Hack n Slash gamers play their games akin to fighting game fans. They like the thrill of creating combos. That is far more of a challenge than anything Nintendo will ever put out. You're only looking at things on the surface. There is no circuit for Nintendo games because Nintendo games at their core are made for family fun and enjoyment. God of War and games like it can be easily beaten, but the true gamers dont play those games on easy and while playing the game properly take on a greater force than anything Nintendo can offer. Nintendo games are well designed and challenging in their own right, but hack n slash games are challenging in their own way as well. The game would add a little bit of variety and understanding. I learned how to play 2D beat em ups and hack n slash games on Sega and Nintendo before I graduated to hack n slash games on the Playstation. They've progressively gotten better and Bayonetta wont be any different. I cannot wait for it.
