I always thought Natsume did a good job localizing these games...I just hope that XSEED is able to get the rights to the name Harvest Moon, because I kinda think without the name it won't sell as good as a lot of people know what Harvest Moon is.

Why is this happening though?

Natsume probably owns the Harvest Moon license and no one else can use it.  The same reason that Dragon Quest had to be called Dragon Warrior for the longest time in the US, because back then the license from Dragon Quest was owned elsewhere in the US because of a board game.

XSeed or whoever will probably pick up the license for Harvest Moon in the US whenever it lapses and Natsume doesn't file for an extension.

No-one cares about Harvest Moon :(

I wonder if it would be possible/worthwhile for Natsume to start making their own Harvest Moon games now? I'd have thought Marvelous would have approached them about acquiring the rights to the name. Hmmm!

I'd imagine Marvelous can buy the name for a song in just a few months, as Natsume has basically nothing else going for it but the naming rights.

As badgenome explained, Marvelous now has its own localization team (XSEED), while Natsume (the old localizer) still owns the "Harvest Moon" name. Marvelous is cutting out the middleman, but that involves abandoning the old title as well.

This makes me want to know who has the rights to the older Harvest Moon games? Natsume? Or Marvelous?

I thought so, too.

But then I thought...

Maybe, just maybe...

Wada left Marvelous a while back and started his own company and made that (poorly received) Harvest Moon-like game where you run a store, which Natsume published. So I wonder if it's outside the realms of possibility that Natsume hooks up with him to continue making Harvest Moon games (which would have to be called something other than Bokujo Monogatari in Japan).

Because otherwise either Marvelous didn't bother to try to get the rights for the name (unlikely), or Natsume just held out for more money than they wanted to pay.

Oh that could go downhill quickly...last thing we need is the Harvest Moon series divided up like that...I just want things to be done right :L

Lufia 2?  Or do you just mean that you don't know them for anything but Harvest Moon now.

You'd like Lufia 2.  It's Wild ARMs before there was Wild ARMs.

Never played it.  Will try.  Thanks for the recommendation!

(And no, I didn't know they published that.  I seem to remember they might have published some mech game for PSP that came out last year, but that + Harvest Moon is the extent of my knowledge of them)

To be fair, it'd been an hour with the most explosive title possible, and no-one had replied.  Sure didn't seem like anyone was bothered that it had 'died'.

Thanks for reminding me about that. I've been meaning to buy Carnage Heart forever and keep forgetting to.

And yes. By all means, play Lufia.

Actually, tell a lie, they published MetropolisMania in the west. I used to own that game. It was terrible, but still, I should've remembered they were the publisher.
