Does anyone know why doesn't English teams use defensive players in the midfield? (Not Chelsea)
I mean players with high propensity for defensive tasks like: ball recovery, marking, play disruption, etc...
I understand that they favor a more offensive style but a tad of consistency on the back line balances a winning team.

The managers prefer players who can pass a ball at that position instead of an enforcer.. Think the lack of a central defender with a good pass created the need of a good passing midfielder close to the defence.. Players like Matic and Busquets who are both good in passing and defending in midfield are rare..
