Man of the match: the ref.

Sorry, fellow Croatians, you truely deserved better than... this.

The ref was bad for both teams. Croatia made a lot of violent fouls and got only 2 YC, while Brazil made only 5 or 6 fouls and also got 2 YC. The PK made up for it though.

Are you counting the cards ?  What bothers me is the non-penalty and the denied goal. THIS change everything, not the fouls or the yellow cards.

Yes, 2YC=RC, so Croatia would play with 10 players (or even less, considering the high number of fouls) if the ref did it. The denied goal was clearly a foul on Julio César, not even the Croatians complained. The only mistake against Croatia was the PK.

I laughed at the bolded. Agree with the rest though.

Whats to laugh at? He intentionally elbowed him in the face and only got a yellow for it.

"Elbowed him" lol. You're probably one of the people who agreed when Kaka was sent off against Ivory Coast in 2010. It was pretty much the same thing.

I don't think it was a sending off either. A yellow card was sufficient. I do not think KAka should have been sent off either and neither did any of the pundits at the time for what it's worth.

The penalty was no penalty.

That was not even a foul, much less a YC.

Croatia made 21 fouls against Brazil 5. Truth be told, there is one or two YC Croatia dodged there.

Eh? Totally different situation considering Kakas elbow was at his side, not in line with the other players head.

Elbow is in Modric's neck. He looked to see where Modric was before he did it too...

Bloody diving again completely changing a game. Anyone that dives should get an immediate 3 match ban. That would put a stop to diving.

Brazil were the better team mind, but the Croatian goalkeeper had a shocker with the last 2 goals.

Here, I found better pictures -

Looking directly at Modric

Elbow directly to Modric's neck/chin.

Should have been off.

And most of these Croatian fouls were violent, yet both teams got 2 YC. People talk about the PK but forget that a red card (2 yellow cards for the same player, there were no red card fouls in the game IMO) for a Croatian player would make the game way easier.

It was a definite foul and at the very least a yellow card. The intent was as clear as day (which according to the strictest adherence to the rules is a red card) and players have been sent off for less. I think it helped that his elbow was the wimpiest elbow I've ever seen.

I don't remember many violent tackles. Strong maybe, but violent?

That didn't take long until we got proof that video challenges should become possible in football. First game of the tournament and it's already bullshit. But sure, let's add some spray because that is really a serious matter.

The match looked like it was heading towards a final score of 1-1 because both teams played more cautious in the second half. Understandable for Croatia, not so much for Brazil. As for the controversy discussed in this thread, yellow for Neymar was correct, not giving Croatia the 2-2 was also correct. However, the penalty kick isn't even debatable, it was dead wrong. And consequently the whole game took a different outcome.

I agree. Soccer is taking ages to improve and enforce their rules with technology.

This chip inside the ball should have been added almost a decade ago.
