Forums - Sony Discussion - GDC: PhyreEngine, Sony's new free cross-platform engine...

How do people spin this negatively when they are offering something for free? Its simply a move to make people try to develop 3rd party games first on PS3 and then port them to the 360. Since Multiplats are going to be the majority of the titles its a smart move

Awesome. The multiplatform aspect of it being free is disconcerting but one of them needed to make a move to stop wii from stealing too much development... and this is a good step towards it.

To me that seems more like the reason for the move then assuring better ports.

doesn't sony have an unannounced project in the works atm? could be that, that game is going to feature this and it just isn't quite ready to announce yet.

Sony has many unnannounced projects in the works.

Its a great move, considering that EA own Renderware - and MS may soon Unreal Engine tech...

Who owns them is not really relevant. It's whether they are available, and for how much.

Renderware has apparently no longer being licensed by EA (but if you have it, you can still use it). It was great for getting around the PS2's architecture, but EA admitted they dropped the ball when it came to HD development for it.

A flashy-first game is awesome when it comes out. A great-first game is awesome forever.
