Forums - Sales - Nintendo the top publisher among manufacturers

Given they provide the majority of support for their own consoles, I should bloody well hope so.

Ok, I added them to OP. They are seperate from the 1995-today numbers, so no harm done.

@serious_frusting. Your requested stats have been added to the OP.

SNES only 97,28M? I'm surprised it best acclamed console got the lowest 1st party sales :O
Also very surprised with the NES numbers, very high numbers.

SNES was great because of its 3rd party games (mainly Squaresoft's).

Too bad the one who stirred the OP to make this is banned and cannot comment. :p

Take a day or two off and miss a real laugher of a thread.  After reading all of the phantoms comments and the comments back to him, it is quite obvious that he was always speaking about something different than the OP here.  It's just funny watching phantom argue with a group of people and have everyone agreeing, but not understanding that they are agreeing.  It just seemed that the more they argued, the more they agreed but didn't know it.

Phantom agreed that Nintendo was the number 1 publisher.  He argued that Sony caused more software sales in total for its system, not as a publisher only, but all software sales for its systems regardless of publisher.

Oh we'll, he won't be back for a while I would guess.

He was insisting on seeing what he wanted to see, after I repeated to him multiple time what my original post was saying.

I've made many posts about it, I'm surprised after all the references to the original  post to phantom and to Jay that you think it was a trainwreck from both ends.

People truly read what they want to read into posts.

I understood that.  You wanted to "win" the argument.  When an outsider reads it, it's funny to read for sure.  Him saying he agrees that Nintendo is the top publisher, but he meant top software selling system.  You saying the Nintendo is # 1.  Him saying Sony is #1.  It was all too funny.  Obviously you were both right from your perspectives, it was just funny to see you guys continue to go at it.  It was even more genious that he got so rattled and got himself banned.

Nothing on you, just an observation.

It is near the end of the end....

Please, include SEGA's data

Not hard to sell games when your the only publisher on your platform with decent games.

Wonder what the numbers are without handhelds

Wii and WiiU would be largely in Nintendo's favor while PS and PS2 would be largely in Sony's favor .

Here is the breakdown:

Gen/Category Sony Nintendo Microsoft Winner's lead over runner up
gen 3 (NES) N/A 189.52m N/A 189.52m (Nintendo, by default)
gen 4 (SNES) N/A 97.28m N/A  97.28m (Nintendo, by default)
gen 5 (PS vs N64) 235.96m 129.95m N/A 106.01m (Sony, runner up: Ninty)
gen 6 (PS2 vs GC vs XB) 198.49m 79.47m 54.36m 119.02m (Sony, runner up: Ninty)
gen 7 (PS3 vs Wii vs X360) 153.94m 396.44m 163.19m 223.25m (Ninty, runner up: MS)
gen 8 (PS4 vs WiiU vs X1) 4.13m 17.32m 3.43m  13.19m (Ninty, runner up: Sony)
------------------------------- ------------ -------------- -------------- ------------------
All-time since NES N/A 909.98m N/A 909.98m (Ninty, by default)
All-time since PS competition 592.52m 623.18m N/A  30.66m (Ninty)
All-time since MS competition 356.56m 493.23m 220.98m 136.67m (Ninty, runner up: Sony)

I won't add it to OP because this thread is about by Publisher, so the efforts on dedicated consoles count on all platforms (portables included).

But the exercise was informative nonetheless.

This to me is the most fascinating part. However, I really want to see Sega numbers. What was Nintendo's software % during all those times, more importantly what is the total combined software sales (minus handheld) from all contestants.

Gen 5 I see like 365.91. Gen 6 it actually declines to 332.32. Then gen 7 we get a massive increase, Wii powerhouses more sales all by itself than ever before, I feat we will likely not see again for at least a couple generations. Total Gen 7 doubles to 713.57. Gen 8 is up in the air at this point.
