Forums - Gaming - Are overrated games "good" games or are they bad?

Some games are given a lot of attention, many that come to mind are games like LoZ:OoT, FF7, etc. and have a large following of people who have had great experiences with those games and others, however for every praise a game may recieve it also has a critic.

When a game is considered "overrated" a lot of times the majority says it is amazing while the minority may say it is terrible. Usually middle ground is rare, which begs the question: who is right? Are the majority just saying what everyone else says to fit in or are the critics saying what people are afraid to admit? Or is it just that the game is good, flawed, but loved?

What is your take on "overrated" games? This wasnt made to start anything, and no game is particular is being targeted (the examples are just examples) I just wanted to know how people feel about the term overrated in general and if games are overrated, are they actually good?

The best way to know if a game is overrated or not is to actually play the game. There is no right or wrong in this case, just opinions.

I don't think overrated means bad. In fact, for anything to get a good amount of critical acclaim, it HAS to have some level of being a "good" game to it. Whether the universal acclaim is warranted versus a more modest amount of praise is where the discussion is.

You are creating a lot of threads lately man xD
Well, I think they are most of the time good, because they need a reason to be overrated, but not all, some are indeed bad.

Do you not like my threads? ;~; But I know, prob need to calm down on the thread making x.x

I think they are just jealous that their inner child died and are now calling amazing games overrated to show how "mature" they have become

It depends. I actually like most games I think are overrated, but some people hate OOT and/or The Last of Us.

Some overrated games are good, they're just not as good as people make them out to be. Other games just plain suck and I can't see how people could find them good. Ni No Kuni for example. Outside of combat it's okay, but in combat the game is absolute ass, yet it's combat is compared to the quality of games like Tales of Graces F, etc, which it's not even remotely close..

It depends. Like TLoU is still mediocre-good, but Sonic Adventure is unplayable. Case by case, I guess.

Well taste is subjective, but generally this are good games that had general praise by reviewers and strong cult folowing by hardcore gamers.

It vary from one person to another. They could think that a highly praised game is directly bad or not THAT good. It can't be an universal consensus about this.
