i think nintendo knew that rare was going to shit, so they decided that it wasnt much of a loss. i dont have any facts to back it up, but the games that rare made after they were sold to microsoft sucked really bad. they havent made anything close to what they used to. makes me feel like the entire team was different and nintendo knew that so it wasnt a huge loss for them.

Nintendo was too cheap to buy Rare outright.

Another "Rare is a shell" thread is forming I see.

A blue shell, and TC hit himself with it.

fixed

Based on their output since 2001. I'd actually say Nintendo sold high at the right time to MS.

I dont know if this has ever been talked about on here but did microsoft hurt nintendo when they bought out RARE?

RARE did make some of the best games on nintendo platforms. When microsoft purchased rare, they got ahold of some major games that once played a major role on nintendo. Has this ever been discussed on here?

Agree? or no?

you realize nintendo owned half of rare right?  They obviously had first dibs on buying the studio, but opted to divest instead of invest further.  If they were hurt by rare being bought by microsoft, they have nobody to blame but themselves.

No. Nintendo wanted to buy Rare, but the Stamper brothers wanted more money than what Nintendo was willing to buy them for. Then Microsoft showed up and offered a bit more.

If Rare would have ended up the same then Microsoft did them a favor.

Nintendo refused to publish Conker's Bad Fur Day, making other companies publishing it.
StarFox Adventures was probably well in developpment at that time(if not finished) and they most likely felt like getting rid of Rare.

In a way that with Microsoft hardware developers don't need to put a game out on Nintendo's console.
Developers can just put games on Bonnie & Clyde and skip Nintendo's hardware. Which is Binnie and which is Clyde I'm not saying.
