Forums - Gaming - External Storage, how much is enough?

How much storage do you need on your Console?

500gb 7 15.22%

1 TB 6 13.04%

5 TB 11 23.91%

10 TB 1 2.17%

16TB 5 10.87%

There can never be enough!!! 16 34.78%

Total:46

Microsoft is allowing 2 external HDD with a total storage capacity of 16 TB after the June update.  Will that be enough?  It would seem to cost you a huge chunk of cash to buy them today (2 drives at 8 TB a piece = $1,500+ US).  I guess that cloud storage thing might just take off afterall.  Of course, that would require game streaming to work...

Either way, how much is enough for you???

I think our storage options after June will be just fine. Unless your the 0.1% of gamers who tries and buys almost every game released.

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

Instead of seeking to convince others, we can be open to changing our own minds, and seek out information that contradicts our own steadfast point of view. Maybe it’ll turn out that those who disagree with you actually have a solid grasp of the facts. There’s a slight possibility that, after all, you’re the one who’s wrong.

I have a 3TB external HDD that's about half way full. I'll be in the market for a 5TB hard drive probably next year

I'll be buying a 4 TB HDD for my XBO soon so I voted for 5 TB. This is just for me though, I think 1 or 2 TB should be enough for normal use.

It would seem to me that 5TB should be enough for the next 5 years. By then, the next consoles will be out anyway.

I like having 1tb for games, and cloud storage for my porn (except my secret stash)

PC Specs: CPU: 7800X3D || GPU: Strix 4090 || RAM: 32GB DDR5 6000 || Main SSD: WD 2TB SN850

2TB is more than enough for 50 25GB games, so it will be more than enough for most people.

Wow, that seems like a whole bunch now. But remember the original Xbox had an 8 gig hard drive. Which was amazing and a first for a console back then. Now the Xbox One has 8 gigs of RAM. And Crytech says that is the limiting factor. Technology like to march on an eat up hardware.

So 16 is huge right now, and probably more than this gen will need. But next gen...

I think at some point they will offer and Xbox One with 1T or 2T hard drives. Maybe in the Slim.

Note: Also remember this is on USB 3.0 so it can be faster than the built in hard drive.

Really not sure I see any point of Consol over PC's since Kinect, Wii and other alternative ways to play have been abandoned.
