not in Japan

In Japan, like everywhere else, one of them has a future while the other has played all it's cards.

really? So there is no games in the future for Wii U? Nintendo is doomed!

Sony is doomed you mean as PS4 has no games coming, this is it. Yes you're considering this from every angle.

WiiU is also doomed, no games coming, that is it!!!

Seriously though, WiiU still got games coming for it, and ps4 just started. But overall both are doing terrible. PS4 wont touch WiiU numbers anytime soon

Frankly, the majority of people who are saying that the ps4 is doomed in Japan are nintendo fanboys clinging to any little victory that they can at this point, when the truth is closer to home consoles in general being doomed in Japan.

Because Sony fans need to be taken down a peg.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

It's the only point they can attack the ps4 with. Simple Jealousy.

Xbox360 was doomed in Japan, did it matter?

so yea, stupidity at its best.

Why would anyone be jealous?  It's $400, I'm sure most of the people here could scrape that up if they wanted to.  I can afford one no problem, just haven't bought one as thjere are NO games on it that I want to play.

Maybe the doomed in Japan threads are because of all the diehard Sony fans that jump on every single chance to spread gloom and doom about the other systems?!?

Stop hating and start playing.

Doom and Gloom sells, and you're definitely right. Japan has historically purchased consoles when the games they want has released, and 3ds, vita all were weak at the start and got better when the japanese centric games came. Same is gonna go for ps4.

This is exactly it!

It's too early to call that. PS4 is not selling very well in Japan yet because there is hardly any games attractive to the Japanese audience. Japan is VERY SENSITIVE to system seller game franchises.

So without franchises like Mario, zelda, final fantasy, pokemon, tekken, virtua fighter, dragon quest, monster hunter, Yakuza, Resident Evil, Kingdom Hearts etc... you cannot expect to move hardware! It's completely expected what is going on right now!

Because they need everything that they can use to make the WiiU sales look good in Japan.

This.  Thread after thread has been made about how PS4 hardware is selling poor in Japan despite having no Japanese exclusives except Knack and it was only launched three months ago.  If you pay attention to the people who started the threads, it's always been from someone pro Nintendo, obviously butthurt that the Wii U isn't getting the sales that the Wii got and has a vendetta against Sony, who is now in first place and feels the need to point out that the Wii U is doing better in order to feel better about their purchase.

You make a good point, but the Vita also had a pretty poor start (not quite as bad, but still relatively terrible), and now it's been picking up steam since developers are jumping on.

Japansese developers tend to stick with older consoles for the first year as a transition period, and then they start developing legitimately for newer consoles.

Although, like you said, if major games like Final Fantasy XV and Kingdom Hearts III take too long it will be a lot harder to recover, but if the rumors are true and Final Fantasy XV comes out either this year or next, I think the PS4 could do just as well as the PS3 did.

Kinda random, but I did the numbers for what PS4 needs to achieve to reach ~10,000,000 sales (what PS3 has sold in Japan).

From here on out, it would have to sell 36,500 a week for 5 years, 30,500 a week for 6 years, or 26,100 a week for 7 years to reach that number.

All in all, I actually don't think that asking "Is Sony doomed in Japan?!" the right question (Not saying that you're asking that. It's fine to confront those who say that the system has no future this early on). I'm interested in knowing why Sony's focus on eastern support is so anemic. It was 3rd party developers, and not Sony, that have propped up the Vita into a niche but dependable portable we see today. I don't see the PS4 getting that sort of support that can come out consistently, and that's going to be a problem. Sony itself needs to develop titles that the Japanese consumer wants to play, but right now they're totally focused on the Western market. Obviously that's working out for them, with fantastic sales in Europe and NA, but I'm curious to see if they'll push to grab more of a mindshare in Japan as well.

But I love Salt :'(

A small amount of salt is ok, but a table spoon with every meal is a tad to much ^^

PS4 is going to be doomed in Japan for at least another year, No big games with release dates. It'll be up to Sony to pull something out of their ass, maybe they might bring out the last guardian this year! lmao not that it'd do that good but least it's something Japanese people like.

Sony isn't doom, they just caught flats in its tires. Sony isn't going to stop selling hardware and there will be demand (little demand but demand). I'm just saying it won't be the market leader like some wants to claim.
