To be fair to Infamous I don't think anyone thought it was going to sell a ton of copies in Japan.

Probably because it released a year and half after the Wii U in Japan and its selling at the same level as the Wii U atm.

Not much of a chance of that. Japan knows that its games are niche market type games. Those games can't survive on high end home consoles anymore so only the most hardcore games will even get made anymore. Nintendo however only has Weird Japanese niche games, so why wouldn't they buy into it. Konami and Square Enix are silly to support the PS4 with Japanese games, PS4 just doesn't have traction in Japan anymore. Indie market doesn't count since those games aren't really advertised and you have to be a really hardcore gamer to even know about them.

Still too early to make an accurate assessment, but I have to say the tax increase seems to be affecting the market even more than I had expected and it's likely to get worse. The video game market may have seen its worst golden week ever, and next year when the second wave of the tax hike that drops in October may lead into one of the worst holiday seasons of all time in Japan. Should be interesting to see.
