Sales mean everything.

Amazon Japan preorder rank is not the same as "sales."

Preorders are sales.

Please tell me those numbers then, because all I see is an order.

anyone with a minmum of common sense would know PS4 will beat Wii U in Japan, it will just take longer than here.

Look at PS3 and 2 before it. Things will turn around. Probably about the time Nintendo is done with the Wii u.

No, they won't.

Really? You are willing to say this after about 6 months on the market?

The fact is this. PS3/4 and PSP/Vita have done well in Japan. When you take a look at history....Sony does well. They get the third party support. You think Microsoft or Nintendo is going to get this support, or you think there will just be no dedicated console there soon?

The PS4 is doing worse in Japan than any Sony system dude. History doesn't matter when the present contradicts it.

I think all home console will flop there. And the Vita isn't doing well there either, it just isn't as atrocious as the Wii U, PS3, and now PS4 is.

"Just some stupid looking Uncharted games and shooters and Movie simulated games where half of the game is you just watching and NOT playing. Nintendo will have the most fun games for all ages."

Oh, you mean that IN ADDITION to the actual playing, there is an actual plot and a story that is going somewhere, so that the whole thing actually seems worthwhile, instead of just jumping around meaninglessly with surreal characters on surreal platforms just for the heck of it? Different gamers want different things.

PS3 was only a few million behind the mighty Wii in Japan, but the PSP, PS2 and even PS did great! Vita has turned itself around over there and only continued slacking sales in the west will hinder it. PS 4 only has a few games so far and has been out for just a little bit. It is no  where near as far behind as the PS3 was to the Wii last gen.

So you are sure?

Yeah, I'm sure.

Saying PS4 is a flop whereas there is not even one exclusive system seller on it is silly.

In comparison, Wii U has the whole christmas + Mario + MH , and it sold only 200k more than PS4 in the same period though.

Well...that was an interesting OP for sure...

Still it seems to have produced some relatively good discussion so let's see how it goes. For me, I don't think the Wii U will perform better than the PS4 in the long run; however in a few weeks likely until Christmas it will outperform it. Then when FFXV and other big titles hits, it's up in the air.

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

all Nintendo could do is delay the inevitable by cutting the price

I think the bigger question here is that will this gen be by far the lowest we have seen?

What will be the lowest of what?

I actually wouldn't consider WiiU a flop in Japan. I believe that, given the circumstances and the market preferences, it is doing rather well. It certainly can be considered a flop outside of Japan. I also believe that WiiU can still post good Japanese numbers given the strength of their IPs and their potential to attract Japanese consumers.

Sony can currently be considered a disappointment, it would be too premature to call it a flop after 75 days on the market, while putting out only 4 games during that period. It will never reach historic successes, but a steady inflow of quality games for the Japanese consumers can certainly make it a competitor.

I don't dare predict which of the two will come out on top, to quote the true outsider in Japan: "It's not a sprint, it's a marathon".
