The good thing is that your predictions are terrible (I saw what you did in NPD's thread), so you'll be mistaken about that too..

While you are correct about 99$. Sony gets these things WAAAAY cheaper than we can
Also 60$ for a 500 GB HDD is overpriced.....

Can you elaborate on this for those of us too lazy to do our own research?
Is it another situation where we've been hammered with the fact that PS3 rebounded and outsold 360 but then the shipment data actually shows otherwise?
First thing that is wrong with the article is that this is a device that doesn't have a hard drive, so why would they release it with a hard disk... they already have a product for that... :)
It's possible that a redesign could be coming, but i would be surprised if they brought one out without a BR disk drive.
What I would think would be better would be a cheaper PS3 (with HD), get rid of the 12GB device. Now I know a couple of people here are saying why bother with a redesign, well it makes it cheaper to produce. Which means they can lower the price and still have the same margins. Next comment would be, well last gen is dying... yes that is true but then the cost of the console hasn't decreased as much as it should, and without making the device cheaper, they cannot maintain the margin, reduce the price and sell more.
So after all that, who knows...lol.

Yes. The 360 is still ahead, level at the absolute worst. Its quite clear. |
Hilarious.

Lol no, just no. What is it with some people round here saying the 360 has been outselling the PS3 worldwide when it is a fact that all the shipment numbers we've had over the past few years show the PS3 has been outselling the 360, it's like some people live in opposite land.
Since both the PS3 and 360 have been available worldwide, out of the 23 quarters worth of data that can be directly compared the 360 has only managed to outsell the PS3 7 times, so 70% of the time the 360 has failed to outsell the PS3. And in the past 2 years worth of data we have there isn't a single quarter where the 360 managed to outsell the PS3.
January - March 2012: PS3 1.9m / 360 1.4m
April - June 2013: PS3 1.1m / 360 1.0m
July - September 2013: PS3 2.0m / 360 1.2m
On top of that for many years now whatever amount the 360 outsells the PS3 in the USA the PS3 makes up that amount by outselling the 360 in Japan and that's still true to this day. That leaves Europe+the rest of the world where the Playstation has always dominated the 360 and there is zero evidence that magically the 360 is now outselling the PS3.
Both console's sales are slowing down but the PS3 is selling more and the Playstation brand has a history of doing well late into each generation unlike other console brands. Sony reworking the PS3 design and/or cutting the price wouldn't be stupid and would further insure respectable sales late into the gen. The PS3 will go on to sell over 93m lifetime at least.

Agreed, it will stop somewhere between 90 and 100M. Apparently they keep forgetting this..

Right.

Right. Sony shipped 14.6 million home consoles this fiscal year and sold "over" 7 million PS4 ( http://www.joystiq.com/2014/05/14/sony-forecasts-fifth-annual-loss-in-six-years/ ), so no less than 6 million PS3, more probably about 7 million. They forecast 17 million shipped home consoles for the next fiscal year, so, probably, about 5 million PS3, given their PS4 production capacity. 360 shipments (millions) in the same time frame: 1.0 (Ap-Jn 2013), 1.2 (Jl-Sp 2013), 1.72 (Oc-Dc 2013), 0.8 (Q1 2014, less than a million) Total: 4.72, that's probably a couple million less than the PS3.

Riii... naaah, that's really spot on.
I like the slim version better than the latest revision. If a new version comes out, I hope it's more aesthetically pleasing.
On that note, I wonder if they are able to shrink it down to the ps2 slims size.
