Forums - Gaming - When Should Developers Leave Last-Gen Consoles Behind?

2015. For now software sales on 7th gen consoles are still bigger than 8th gen so expect most major 3rd party to keep supporting for another year.

Heck, the last PS2 game came out in September! The PS2 was a such a damn beast!

PS1 got some love too, the last game released was FIFA 2005.

I am glad to see that two of the best consoles ever got supported for so long!

And not only them, here are some of the last games released for some consoles:

Atari 2600 - Acid Drop in 1992

NES - Sunday Funday in 1995

Neo Geo - Samurai Shodown V Special in 2004

Master System - Mickey's Ultimate Challenge in 1998

That list doesn't include homebrew games that come out yearly, of course!

They have some homebrew games at the bottom of the page, like the AVGN game for Atari in 2013 (I believe).

.........I should feel bad for not knowing about the AVGN game for the 2600!

EDIT: Also, a Flappy Bird game will come out for the GameCube in 2015? What the serious fuck?! >:(

AVGN gameplay for the 2600 (9:30 in the video):

Not as soon as we'd all like. Xbone is barely more powerful than 360, so that makes it very easy to just make the 360 version and play basically the same copy on Xbone.

Just look at Titanfall. The 360 and Xbone version are exactly alike. Even uses the same textures. The only difference is 792p on Xbone, and 600p on 360.

As long as developers can get away with things like that they will keep doing it.

2016.

This. Plus there are projects that started on Previous Gen Hardware some years ago that are just getting released now. So you can count on previous gen games being released for the next few years. It's just the way it is with game development taking upwards of 5 years or so for some games.
