Forums - Nintendo - Why I am cautiously optimistic for Nintendo's E3 "Digital Event"

0 expectations given the history of disappointments. Im not expecting anything unexpected.

Which is the reason why i think they dont spend the money at E3 anymore. Its was a snoozefest last year, i expect nothing different this year.

There is a small chance i am wrong, but under better management it would be much more likely.

That's kind of an ignorantly pessimistic way of looking at things.

Ignorantly? What's ignorant in his comment?

Seems more like a case where you childishly can't accept that people don't see things the same as you do...

It's ignorant because it's childish to expect nothing for fear of disappointment. Literally expecting nothing good to happen because you don't want to be disappointed if something bad happens is ignorant.

"There's a small change I'm wrong?" Why? What make it so definite that not one good thing can happen? It's ignorant.

So you're saying that because he's been disappointed by past presentations from Nintendo, and because he's now cautiously pessimistic about this year's one, he's ignorant? The guy says that there is a chance that he's wrong, and you conclude that he feels it's "definite" that not one good thing can happen?  Maybe you need to look at what definite means. And when you do, you should also take a look at the word ignorant.

I think that you need to relax a little. Because you're twisting what he's saying. It's reasonable to not expect the moon when you've felt disappointed by something multiple times in the past. You're just calling him ignorant because he's not as optimistic as you are.

No. I never said he was ignorant. I said his pessimism was ignorant. He literally said "0 expectations." That means he expects "0" good things to happen. Still with me? I'm saying that to literally expect 0 good to happen is to display pessimism so unrealistic that it's foundation stems from ignorance.

Definte. Zero. 0. Absolute. Nothing. No one's twisting anything but you.

Just putting this out there.

I may be thinking too big here, but ever since I read the term 'digital event' I thought Nintendo Direct + a live audience - in their press release, they stated that their new kind of program will build upon the ND format...well how do you build upon a video by merely keeping it within the confines of a video? Then I came across this - here's a clip of a non-gaming digital event.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmXmyBiSVug

Imagine Nintendo's E3 video playing outside the Convention Center in LA in front of everyone waiting to get inside...as well as Times Square & Nintendo World Store in NYC...meanwhile, the Zelda Symphony is jamming out at Rockefeller Center, or something. The idea is that you're getting direct footage of the games, but also crossfading to live reactions as well as live performances.

That would be awesome, especially if they include the models.  That's the biggest thing with the Digital Event.  It just needs to be fun.  Good streaming, hight quality, fun games, good host... and if they had an audience, that would add to the excitement.

Because Nintendo obviously failed to deliver in the recent years.

The ability to surprise is certainly what gets the most mileage out of any E3, and the surprise factor should be higher this year than last (mid-gen E3s are generally poor for Nintendo, but 2013 should be the nadir this time around).
