And to be fair, those Nintendo numbers includes GBA. |
Pretty sure that is only gaming for all three companies.... so it should include GBA/DS/PSP.

Should recreate this with all data post FY11 Q3. Interesting to see Nintendo's fall to its first ever loss.
Still seems crazy to me that a company could eat up all the profits from the PS2 days with the PS3 like Sony did. Or how MS is still in the red with Xbox. Makes you wonder why these companies even bother.

To be fair, the GBA didn't end up selling 150+ million units.
Sony should have had higher profit margins with the PS2. It's stupid how a console as dominant as the PS2 didn't profit that much.

Its not always about short term profit.

Well, theoretically, Sony is correct. The PS4 isn't selling for as big of a loss as the PS2 was, and charging for online now means more profit to be made.
However, in reality, the PS4 probably won't sell nearly as many units as the PS2 did (meaning less software sold), so we'll see how it ultimately pans out for them.
Well if PS2 was the golden age, I suspect this could be a platinum age for Sony's Gaming Division.
I hope so because I'd like to see Japanese developers get on bored with the success its hard in the US, and the potential it could have in Japan once more games were available for them. :)
