That's the ugliest thing I have seen since the Ngage. Not that it will ever be made anyway. 90% of patents go unused.
Yes there were reports of a possible redesign, but it's really impossible for them to make it any smaller. The screen's hardware already fills pretty much the entire system from left to right. That's why they weren't able to put in another analog nub (thus making shooters blow the big one on it). But those redesign rumors were started by news websites when Sony anounced "a big change" to the PSP to keep retailers from dropping it (Best Buy was threatening to do so due to bad sales). Unfortunately, their solution turned out to be a $30 price drop, which didn't really solve anything. So no, a redesign isn't happening. PSP2 will likely happen eventually, though the PSP has been a large profit sink for Sony due to lack of software sales and the cost of the hardware.
