Pokemon's been... pretty damn pervasive and important. I wouldn't expect much less than many people listing it as such.

It IS the #1 RPG franchise in the industry, the game that made handheld gaming in many ways on par or superior to console brethren, vastly improvved the multiplayer portion of the JRPG, and has had quite a few big spinoffs, some of which are series in their own right.
Love and tolerate.
1. Zelda
2. Metroid
3. Kingdom Hearts
4. Mario
5. Super Smash Bros
6. Resident Evil
7. Pokemon
8. Metal Gear Solid
9. Mega Man
10. Ace Attorney
Is this supposed to be our personal favorite top franchises or the most important to the industry?

I was doing a sort of combination of series with the best reviewed games, both the #1 game in a series and its top 5 or so, that have been/were relevant for the longest time, covered the most territory, were the most popular, and left the most impact on the industry.
So I'm basically using Excel to make a subjective list.
Love and tolerate.
1. The Legend of Zelda
2. Super Mario
Then it gets more difficult to list in any specific order, but here are some game series that I have really enjoyed. In no particular order.
Banjo Kazooie/Tooie
Uncharted
Resident Evil
Penumbra
Amnesia
Europa Universalis
Age of Empires
Monkey Island
Gran Turismo
Counter-Strike
Maniac Mansion/Day of the Tentacle
Battlefield
Metal Gear Solid
Doom
Deponia
Quake
ICO/Shadow of the Colossus
Sonic
Kings Quest
Is what I can think of right now.
No order,
Kingdom Hearts
Gran Turismo
Fire Emblem
Ratchet and Clank
Persona
Mario
Zelda
Final Fantasy
Uncharted
Crash Bandicoot

Congrats for being the only one here to not call it the Metal Gear Solid franchise.
1. The Legend of Zelda
2. 3D Super Mario
3. Pokemon Main RPGs
4. Super Smash Bros.
5. Paper Mario (the first 2)
6. Mario Kart
7. The Sims, Street Fighter, or Pushmo/Crashmo :p (that's NOT a joke!)
The last 3 are based entirely on the one game that I've played from each series. If more games come out in these series (such as Monolith Soft's "X") and they are comparable to the first game I played in each, then these 3 would probably be numbers 2, 3, and 4 on the list, respectively.
8. Xeno (based solely on Xenoblade Chronicles being my favorite game of all time)
9. Fire Emblem (based on Fire Emblem: Awakening being my 3rd favorite game of all time)
10. Kid Icarus (based on Kid Icarus: Uprising being in my top 10 games of all time)
Upcoming Games To Get
Definite: Kirby Star Allies (Switch), Mario Tennis Aces (Switch), Fire Emblem (Switch), Yoshi (Switch), Pokemon (Switch), Kingdom Hearts 3 (PS4), Monster Hunter World (PS4)
Considering: Fe (Switch), Donkey Kong Country Tropical Freeze (Switch), The World Ends With You (Switch), Ys VIII (Switch), Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition (PS4), Kingdom Hearts 2.8 Remix (PS4), The Last Guardian (PS4), Shadow of the Colossus HD (PS4), Anthem (PS4), Shenmue 3 (PS4), WiLD (PS4)
