Forums - Sony - Driveclub ps+ edition detailed

If you're worried about the ignorant, who is to say there won't be a very clear level of transparency about this? I would imagine if this is the route they are taking, there will be a disclaimer that says you will need a PS+ membership to play the game, and it won't be hidden away in the fine print.

By the way, if you could keep the game without a sub, if would be cheaper to pay for a month of PS Plus, download the game, upgrade, then remove your sub after 30 days. I don't think they want word of that getting around. (Although it could actually increase memberships).

As far as a comparison with XBL, there were services that were stuck behind a paywall with no alternative. This is not the case here. This is an option for those who are going to continue to use PS Plus to get the game on discount. Otherwise, get the hard copy.

@italics: You know this because? Just because their is a disclaimer doesn't make it defensible.

@bolded: this isn't uncommon in the Playstation Ecosystem. I mean cross buy alone contradicts this.

@normal:  its not a discount, you get less content for less price. Saving 10$ is meaningless, when you don't even own the game. Your essentially paying for 50$ dlc

I looks as though Sony is treating the extra content as DLC...

Its just like any other PS+ game where they give you the main title for free but charge for the DLC. You own the DLC but if you lapse on your PS+ subscription it can no longer be played since you cannot access the main title.

Of course this differs in that the main Drive Club game sounds like a stripped out version of the retail game and that sucks.

Well, your point was that this practice was going to trick ignorant gamers. With a discalimer there, that's hardly going to be the case, unless of course they can't read.

They still get full price on a new release that has cross buy, unless I'm mistaken.

It's a discount if you're planning on keeping PS+. What content am I missing? If you couldn't connect is the only time this would become an issue.

Do you read the T & C of any program you install or service you use on the internet?

Do you read the disclaimers for drugs you see advertized on TV?

Crossbuy is full ownership across multiple platforms, so its cheaper than buying it for one or multiple systems. It's an exploit popularized by Sony themselves. In contrast using a free plus membership to get a 10$ discount is hardly worth any concern.

EVERY prior PS+ discount, gives you FULL ownership. The free games and the discount themselves are there to keep you subscribing not access to the games you paid the discount for. If you don't have ownership, you don't even own the content, so you are missing the entire game. You are just allowed to play the game, and god help you if something ever happened to the PS+ service.

I can understand what Dallinor is saying...as a PS+ member myself, who has no plans to end my subscription, ever. This is basically a discount.

But on the other hand Dr. Henry makes a good point in that the way this game is being discounted is different to how other PS+ games are discounted. They should have a discount price for PS+ members as normal. That way the game remains playable when your subscription ends.

Sony is playing off ignorance's here imo and are blurring the lines between whats DLC and what a discounted game etc. And this is all linked to the free PS+ games.

They should just keep things simple and offer good value for money. No1 ever complains when they dont feel cheated. Right now people will feel cheated, no matter what the intention is from Sony.

No, generally I don't. However the section at the very top of the information screen when you click on a game says "When you purchase this game with PS Plus it's yours to keep forever, not a member of plus..." etc. Any disclaimer would likely be put there, above the other important information, like the amount of players the game supports, the resolution and the download size.

I read the disclaimers of all drugs I take, aside from the ones that don't come with disclaimers.

A $10 difference by 40-50k is huge. You're talking about 500k in lost revenue. Who buys the same game across multiple platforms? Sony probably don't see that as lost sales, but an easily accessible discount is very real. By the way, I don't believe this is the only reason, I was just trying to suggest one, I'm not sure why they're changing their practices.

Really, I understand your viewpoint on the matter now. You have a problem with the onwership status of the product given you can't play it unless you have an active subscription. That doesn't bother me though, as I will continue to have an active subscription and I would consider myself an owner of the game given I can play it for as long as I want, so long as I have my account and my PS4. Saving $10 at launch is completely worth it then in my eyes.

By the way, I'm probably not even getting Driveclub. So I'm just gonna drop the issue here.

I dont get why anyones mad. Its the PS+ edition. No shit it dissapears if your not a member. Also you get it for free. Whats wrong with people these days. If you want the full game buy it like every single other game on the market
