Sony selling SOE isn't that bad. The studio has always been very PC-focused and didn't have much interest in console development. That's probably why Sony sold them. To date they've only actually released one PS4 game, and that was just a port of a PS3 game. Planetside 2 was supposed to be a launch title for PS4 but it's still not out. Why? Because SOE directs all their resources to PC. I find it funny that people think Daybreak is going to start releasing a bunch of new Xbox games. They barely even worked on PS4 games. I wouldn't see any console ports of a game releasing until years after the game had actually been launched.

I was going to post this in the SOE thread but it seems to be broken.

Yeah, but they made money for Sony so that will be missed, unless of course they sold them for a huge figure.

But on a personal note, I'm glad to see them gone. I absolutely hated the people in charge there!

Oh, and it is only one page of the thread that is broken. Either change your posts per page setting or spam the thread into the next page and it will be fixed

I highly doubt they were a very profitable studio. They haven't had a huge hit since the original Everquest back in 1999. The important thing is that the studio isn't really an important part of Playstation. SOE doesn't even go to E3. They have their own show. I don't think it's a huge loss.

Sigs are dumb. And so are you!

Welp, Sony just sold SOE meaning they've lost the following PS4 console exclusives possibly, and the rights to them:

  • H1Z1
  • Planetside 2
  • EverQuest Next
  • DC Universe Online (also on PS3)

Any hint at how much money Sony made with it? Would be cool if they took this money (if enough) and got From Software and/or Read at Dawn.

With all the IPs the deal must have been in the hundreds of millions.

From is already owned by Kadokawa but Ready at Dawn would be a smart acquisition I agree.

I don't really see why you'd buy RaD. They already are PS only, purchasing them would only make sure they don't abandon that. From Software would be a great buy tho if that's a possibility. But I'm assuming every cent they made with the selling of SOE will go to covering up some debts.

It would do a bit more than that though. It would also mean Sony get 100% of the control of what they work on and more importantly get 100% of the profit.

I wonder tho, how much would it cost?

Right,SOE has been irrelevant to PlayStation and irrelevant to gaming since everQuest.I hope Sony got tons of money for them.

Throw in Quantic Dream as well since they said they were open to it.Or even open a few new studios.

They bought Sucker Punch..

RaD would be a good idea, according to VGC their 3 PSP titles sold over 8M copies combined, not counting the PS3 ports. Obviously they'd still need to wait and see if The Order keeps a good streak going or not before making such a call.

Btw there'd actually be a fairly good reason to do it. On one hand, RaD can expand without risking their own money, on the other, Sony would control that expansion. And expansion is something they need to do if they want to make sequels with MP. The studio is still a bit too small, they're gonna need to keep hiring.
