DerNebel said: Btw. what's you guys' opinion on Until Dawn? I wasn't interested at first but after watching several videos it's somehow growing on me. It's definitely not going to be a masterpiece but it seems pretty entertaining. Like a QD game not written by a guy totally oblivious to his own lack of writing talent. |
I honestly don't know how I feel about the game. I definitely think it would be a game that I would enjoy playing with my friends and family, especially if we can get it at a discount price. I'm not a fan of horror, but it's something I can enjoy with other people.
How do you think it will be reviewed? I am honestly unsure. I am sure it will be criticized for the QTEs in the action segments (they're not even creative QTEs, unfortunately, in the action sequences. There are some intuitive and creative ones in the less intense scenes, but when you're running, it's literally just pressing a random button). While it has gotten significantly better, I can see it also being criticized for its dodgy framerate. I can also see it being criticized for an over-reliance on jump scares, because it's schlocky horror.
But at the same time, it's a game that I really, really want reviewers to be generous to, because it brings a lot of really interesting elements into the horror genre, even if the game is highly imperfect. I love the idea of the butterfly effect as it really will make the game significantly more intense. I also adore the fact that there are relationship values in the game -- I think that makes the concept of permadeath even more unsettling. Watching some intros, I also adore the jarring camera angles that are used. While people have complained about it, I actually really like the voice acting -- the voices fit whiny teenagers really well.
